He debuted at # 21 for his respective team in BA's Prospect Handbook three years ago.

Key words found in his scouting report within the book included the following:

- Was one of the more anticipated free agents in the international signing market.
- The international scouting director raved about this player's power (80 on the 20-80 scouting scale), work ethic and makeup, but was eventually fired.
- One scout compared him to Travis Hafner physically, but it wasn't meant as a compliment.
- His maxed out body led to suspicions about his age.
- He disappointed his team at their fall minicamp with both his hitting and fielding.

Let's see how long it takes for someone to come up with the right answer.

Jesus.
Montero.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
I figured Villalona or Montero...but with the buzz around Montero I figured that would be the one to go with.

And here I figured you consulted your 2007 Handbook and took the easy way out.

Just another Montero thread in disguise

The purpose of this thread wasn't to pimp him, though.

Rather, to show just how different the opinions of the "experts" can be at the beginning of a player's career.

To me, that is one of neatest things about having all of the Prospect Handbooks. Being able to run through the preseason scouting reports of some of today's stars and see what was thought of them years before. Of course, it's also a blast to play the "oh wow, I remember this 'top prospect'" who turned into a huge bust.
