Just got a ballot in the mail for picking the location for the 2012 and 2014 Nationals. The proposed schedule looks like this:

2012 - Baltimore
2013 - Chicago
2014 - Cleveland
2015 - Chicago
2016 - TBD
2017 - TBD
2018 - Cleveland

The only two shows that are in question at this point are the 2012 and 2014 shows. The NSCC currently has 2012 booked in Cleveland but wants to switch it to Baltimore and push back the Cleveland show to 2014. Due to scheduling problems, 2012 is the only year in the forseeable future that would work for Baltimore. As dealers, we can vote to either have the show in Baltimore in 2012 and push Cleveland back to 2014 or have the show in Cleveland in 2012 and find another location in 2014 (which may end up being Cleveland anyways).

Another note - for those of you who would like to have the National back in Anaheim, NSCC management sheds some light on why that hasn't happened and will not happen any time soon. The Anaheim convention center will not guarantee dates to the NSCC more than 24 months in advance of the show. The NSCC doesn't feel like this would give them enough time to find a backup plan if Anaheim decided to give the dates away to another event. You can expect to see more Chicago and Cleveland dates on the docket until these policies change.

Back to the vote, which option would you choose for the 2012 and 2014 shows? I thought Baltimore was a better location than Cleveland (and a closer drive for me) and it's also nice to get a new city in the rotation. Right now I am leaning towards voting for Baltimore.

I am voting for Baltimore for 2012. I had a good show there, it was a fun place for the show, and there was enough for my wife to do other than the show.

Thanks for sharing. Really sucks to hear about Anaheim not working out, that was my first and only National and it was amazing.

If Baltimore was a nice refreshing change, why don't they look into more "new" cities to have it in?

I am certainly not a dealer but as an Arlington, VA resident I say bring it to Baltimore as much as possible! Has DC ever been considered? As a NATIONAL show it would only make sense to me to have it in DC but I dont know all the history behind it.

I think they should go up higher, like to Minneapolis. They would have the Dome (considering the Gophers would be done, road trip, or be using Seibert during the weekend). There is a whole un-tapped slue of collectors especially in the North that would for sure come down for the event if they knew about it.

I know it is more for dealers' easy travel. But at these locations, I would never even get to go. I am tryin to convince the family to go down their this summer, see some family, maybe catch a (gulp) Cubs or (smaller gulp) White Sox game. Maybe head over too Beloit...

it's a dream... I know... but it's fun to dream

AC will be in the running for 2014 should the dealers vote for Cleveland in 2012.

Great!

I just don't understand how freaking "COMIC-CON" or whatever they are called is in NYC every year and we can't get the largest sports convention in here once? Geez... ::facepalm::

Where would they have it? Javits? you know what tables would cost there? TONS

where would everyone stay? NYC Hotels?

it makes no financial sense to have it in NYC

If Sports Cards were close to the market that Comic Con brings in that would be feasible. Comic Con is also movies, TV and more not just comics. Sports Cards is just cards and memorabilia.

Of course Javits would be good...maybe the Meadowlands Expo center (where they have the Tri-Star shows) would be good too...

Why not eliminate both Cleveland & Baltimore and meet in the middle, bring it to Pittsburgh. Then use one of the other years that was planned for Cleveland or Baltimore for another city.

I'd rather it be in Detroit than Cleveland, but if it's going to be in the Midwest...Chicago or St. Louis would be best.

Personally, the National should simply bounce from East to West every three years. Every other year if would be in Chicago (or St. Louis/Kansas City)

For example...
2011 - Chicago
2012 - Anaheim/Los Angeles/San Francisco
2013 - St. Louis/Kansas City
2014 - Baltimore
2015 - Chicago
2016 - Anaheim/Los Angeles/San Francisco
2017 - St. Louis/Kansas City
2018 - Atlanta
2019 - Chicago
