Went down to Woodbridge VA, home of the Nats A affiliate.
It was cold outside. Limited to 1 auto per person. Most of us showed up to get Ryan Zimmerman, unfortunately, he is contractual restricted from signing. But they did have a set up with him for the posing for pictures.
These guys were there:
Joel Hanrahan
Willie Harris
Scott Olsen
Garrett Mock
Manny Acta
Mike O'Connor
John Lannan
Ryan Zimmerman
and 1-2 others that I can't think of right now.

These are the autos I did get.

Who's he (Zimm) contracted with that he can't even sign autos for fans? That's sounds ridiculous to me. I could see not signing for certain card companies but fans? By the sounds of it he can't sign for fans at the ballpark either then.

He can't... 2 years ago at the Nationals Fan Appreciation weekend all the players were at the gates giving stuff away, taking pictures, signing autographs. There were 2 security people with Ryan and they said he wasn't aloud to sign anything.

That Acta card looks really nice!

For the others, I've never been a fan of having a real auto and a facsimile auto on the same card; it looks too "busy" to me.

Agreed. But, i got lucky having any cards. I had brought 2 magazines for Zimm to sign and a baseball to get all the others on, but at the time it was my only option. The guy in line behind me had like 5 cards of each guys shown above and Willingham (no show) and Lannan (got on 2007 teamball). Traded my duplicate mag for 7 cards, one of each guy, and I just took what he gave me.

thats rediculous. you can not sign for the people that make it possible for ballplayers like yourself to make millions. absolute BS. Don't even show up for the event. Just flat out rediculous. There was a situation like that in Tampa this past year. Fans vote on who they want for a Statue night giveaway. And that player signs along the first base line the night of the promotion. Longoria won the contest, but they couldnt do the promotion because he was not allowed to sign autographs. Get real.

It's unfortunate on Zimmerman, but that is quickly becoming the norm for exclusive signing agreements. Companies are purchasing exclusive rights to certain inscriptions as well, so in the future you will find it impossible to find certain signed and inscribed items by many popular athletes. While it doesn't sound fair to the fans who really want to get an autograph for their collection, it is a smart move business wise as it eliminates competition in the marketplace.

If Zim were to sign for the few hundred people he meets at the caravan stops, then Locker Room is sure to see people attempting to sell those signed items at a significantly cheaper price than what they charge. All it takes is a handful of completed sales on eBay to completely change the pricing structure of a players items, to the point where customers would think "It only sells for $50 on eBay, why would I buy it at $100 from you?".
