Ben Goessling of MASN reports that the Nationals plan to select 17-year-old catcher Bryce Harper in this year's first-year player draft.

So I guess Harper can quit trying.....

Good. Now that that is out of the way... I now know Matt Harvey will still be available for the O's to draft. ;)

Nationals intend to draft Bryce Harper

Don't know if this was posted earlier, but here it is:

Ben Goessling of MASN reports that the Nationals plan to select 17-year-old catcher Bryce Harper in this year's first-year player draft.
There has been some speculation that the Nats would look elsewhere, since a handful of scouts are down on Harper. But Goessling hears that the Nationals see the youngster as being "head and shoulders" above the rest of the upcoming draft's talent pool. Harper is batting .422/.516/.891 with 15 homers and 42 RBI through 39 games at the College of Southern Nevada. Apr. 13 - 8:33 am et

Re: Nationals intend to draft Bryce Harper

Now everyone has absolutely no excuse not to get at least 1 right in my annual draft contest.

Speaking of which, the prize will be absolutely killer this time.

Stay tuned.

Hmm....well, maybe it's not official after all.

According to the Nats' MLB.com writer Bill Ladson's Twitter page:

I was informed the #Nats have not decided to draft Bryce Harper in the 2010 First Year Player Draft. #MLBcom

Where is Taillon going to go?

What? You didn't hear the news?

Taillon is joining Grant Desme and becoming a priest.

Wrong sir.

He's joining the dark army and spreading the word of satan across the land.
Naw, that's a Mod's job.

How do you think I knew?

Satan has twitter.

I imagine the Nationals went into panic mode.

False alarm, it seems. However, it's pretty much a certainty they're just covering their asses.

Bryce Harper: 'Not etched in stone' that Nats pick Harper
Bryce Harper - C - HS - Apr. 13 - 4:28 pm et
Nationals' Director of Amateur Scouting Kris Kline told Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post that the decision to draft 17-year-old catcher Bryce Harper is "not etched in stone."
"We've spent a lot of time with Bryce," said Kline. "We have a good feel for what he is and what he's capable of being. But there's other guys we like, too." According to Kline, the Nationals are currently considering five names for the selection and Harper figures quite prominently on the list. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo will have the final say, however he has yet to see Harper play in person. Kline said Rizzo will "absolutely" see Harper before a decision is made.
