Hi, I don't usually seek advice, but this is something new to me. I'm looking for a few opinions on what I consider to be an obvious case of shill bidding.

Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

If you look at the winning bidder, he has 350 bids on 304 items in the last 30 days, 100% of them with this seller.
I was second bidder on this item and received a second chance offer, with the seller saying "the other bidder sent a check that did not clear. Kind of funny that it arrived and had time to clear (not clear in this case) in 7 days.

Any how, is there a way I can go about reporting this to eBay and actually get something done about it?

The thing that sucks is I really want to buy this card, but don't want to give into an obvious shiller.

Thanks

I don't think it was shilled... His feedback is over 1,000, and I doubt there's anything to do except to suck it up and buy. Or turn his offer down and wait for this card to come back to Ebay...

If you REALLY want this card, then go for it. If not, then be patient.

Good luck!

In all honesty, most sellers will ensure something doesn't go "TOO CHEAP". Everyone has a cousin who can bid. Very few people will let a $100 card sell for $20. You can report him, and the seller will be put on notice, but my suggestion to you is to first email the seller, and tell him if it wasn't for that one bidder that didn't make good, you would have got it for $xx and try to work out a deal with him that both of you will be happy with...

Looking at the bid history, I am not sure it was a shill either, but I would still let him know that if it wasn't for the high bidder that didnt pay, you would have got it for $49, and that what you are prepared to pay.

I don't have a lot of experience with this, but how is this not shilling?

The guy has 2 feedback, yet he has bid on 304 items,
100% of them from this seller.

Thanks for the advice, but 350 bids all with this seller?? And some of his past auctions have the same bidder winning and someone else buying on 2nd chance, pretty strange...

BTW, I contacted him about selling it for the $49 bid. I'll have to wait and see what his response is.

I missed that part about 350 bids with this seller and only 2fb...yea, that makes it pretty obvious...
If I want something, I worry about that first. You can always report it after the card is in hand :D

Other thing I just noticed is that the 2 FB are for 2 seperate purchases from this seller totaling 113 cards. So he has already bought 113 cards from this seller, but now he sends a bad check? :?

While shilling sucks, I'd just grin and bear it if it's something you really want.

After you receive your item, I would then contact ebay via phone and talk things over with them. Whatever you do, don't report them while you're waiting on the item to arrive (if you decide to pay, that is). If they get banned while you're waiting, you could be screwed.

Exactly. Shilling happens, everyone knows it, it sucks, but really there isn't a lot people can do about it. You can report it, get the seller banned, then you're not going to get the card either way.

Ultimately, if you REALLY want the card, and it's at a price you were originally willing to pay, then buy it. If you want to call him on it, and try to work a lower price, do that, but be prepared for the consequence of him pulling back the second chance offer and you not getting it.

It does suck, but if you want it, get it.
