Just got an Epson Perfection V30 flatbed scanner, and can't figure out how to get refractors from scanning like this:

I've tried everything I could think of, and changed around every setting I could find, but can't get them to scan right. Does anybody have any tips or recommendations on what to do? Any help would be mucho appreciated.

If you don't like the rainbow refractor lines in your scans, you'll need a new scanner. Your model probably uses a multicolor light source that causes the refraction to display in the scan. There is no way around this but to get a different scanner that uses a white LED or CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) source

Yep, I have the same Epson, and the CIS/LED tech is great for scanning everything except refractors, especially graded vintage. But there's no setting that will keep the refractors from looking like your Soto.

My suggestion is to get a cheap all-in-one printer/scanner with the old CCD/fluorescent lamp technology and use it for scanning refractors only.

Actually cheap all-in-ones and older scanners don't have CCD elements.

They do have cathode ray tubes, but most do not have CCD.

The lines are caused because your scanner's light source is multiple individual LEDs.

If you want to be able to scan slabs, etc - I would recommend either a HP G3110, or a Canoscan 4400f.

Both have cathode tubes and CCD scanning elements.
