I've seen this card cycling around eBay for the past few weeks (being relisted). I'm a Mike Schmidt collector and I'm interested in the card, but I'm wondering why nobody has snapped it up. IIRC, it was originally listed at $50 BIN so perhaps that was just too high and now that the price is lower it will move. I know the patch depicts the dome of Independence Hall which was indeed part of the Phillies logo patch during the 80s when Schmidt played. However, somebody could certainly obtain said patch and swap it in.

Any thoughts on why or why not this card is genuine? Have you seen similar awesome logo patches from the SP GU set (most that I have seen are more standard patches)? Are fakes of this set common (like the Absolute TOTT fakes, etc.)?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm also a Schmidt collector, and yes, obviously, the patch in and of itself could have been real.

On most UD products, if the card is limited to a high # like 50, it's going to be a plain white swatch or pinstripe. A prime patch like that wouldn't go in a /50 card, IMO.

That's pretty much what I was thinking - usually a patch like that is a 1/1, and it just looks almost too perfect - which of course is why I asked.

Nice to meet another Mike Schmidt collector. Maybe we could help each other sometime (I trade any dups I have).

Jeff, you're right but 04 SP Game Used Patch was all about sweet patches so it could be legit.

I have a page on my web site dedicated to my Schillings from that set. As you can see, they're all very nice patches.

I was near completion of this 2004 SPGU set, and have picked up several of the patch cards without autos.

The tins were about $180 per and yielded some incredible cards, and really set the bar high for patch autos from that point on.

This is one of the few that I have left, as I just can not bring myself to trade/sell it.

04 SPGU Patch did have some nice patches... put as a collector I would steer clear of that myself. Just looks too good to be true IMO.

Here's a nice logo patch... placed upside down. ::facepalm:: I pulled this one myself. jersey number too!

Here is a scan i got off sportslogos.net that is the whole patch itself. In my opinion the patch in question is legit.
