why werent YOU there for the signing, and bringing them home yourself?

In retrospect, you are correct. I am the ******* of the year!
I was just in Italy for 10 days. The company that handles Ichiro exclusively handled the signing. It was truly just a freak accident.
I will be at our final ALI signing next week doing exactly what you said.

i hope insurance covers some of the replacement cost.

So Ichiro's people are making you return the damaged autos? So they're really controlling the amount of his autos on the secondary market. That's a good and bad thing honestly, It keeps limited budget collectors from not getting one but sells every time for sellers. How many jerseys of his need to be obtained for the patch cards? I know they also control all his game used items, Are they giving you a deal on the jerseys since there packing issues damaged the cards! So with card, time and production costs, it was atleast a 30-35k hit. Will you be including plain jersey swatch autos in a future product?

I vote Exquisite jumbo plus, but either one of course would be great of course. I like redemptions with a patch because I always like to think in my mind how potentially awesome the patch will be, auto redemptions are less exciting unless there's a potential for it to be numbered to jersey #, in this case 51/100, but if they're to be numbered 50 or lower-no potential jersey number, and I would be less aggressive in bidding on it.

We will be cutting up one gamer.
Any extra swatches will be used for something else down the line (affordable).

That's good with the affordability, you're atleast not depending on one demographic in the hobby. Now that you're getting into prospect/star products.

You might get a lot of lip, but you have the character to answer questions and listen to concerns. Upper Deck is to busy suing themselves to answer questions at the moment.

People should know how protective Ichiro is of his game used stuff. He keep his bats in humidors under lock and key. Special triple dipped in black and hand crafted. Doesn't throw his glove or bats/helmets. Good story on Game Used site about his ways with his stuff and just how hard it is to get legit stuff from him. When his stuff does surface, like MLB authenticated jersey from MLB auctions. They sell for a ton. Even game used balls from milestone games he was in sell for in the hundreds in MLB auctions.

No surprise he and his people keep tight controls on his cert autos he signs.

give redemption where winner has choice, and then whatever doesn't move, use as inserts in next product. :D

All Japanese are very protective of the tool that help provide for them and families. Chefs are the same with knives, cutting boards and other cooking utensils. That's why I was curious about how many game used items he allowed BG to purchase. Because the the Japanese mindset is to leave such tools for other generations to come.

BG I think you are on the right path....the jumbo patch auto would be an added boost to the product, but really either would be great. If the price point is effected by the change, i would go with the jumbo patch auto.....Any thoughts on doing a "tools of the trade" type card with multiple swatches from different pieces, shoes, glove, jersey, hat, batting gloves?? That was a pretty successful set, and is still very highly collected. Good luck with your final decision, and some photos of the ALI signing would be awesome!!!

I voted for "B". For some reason the combination of on card autograph plus a piece of patch from a jersey that they player actually wore has been the focus of my collecting interests lately. I guess I'm tired of the over produced random sticker autographs with no special attribute to set them apart from the masses.

Thanks!
Tom

I think you'd have to be crazy to choose a Metal Auto over a Jumbo Patch Auto. I don't see many breakers complaining about unexpected added value to a product, especially one of this magnitude. In addition, your online database is something the baseball card community has been longing to see for a long time. By being the first in this hobby to do it, Leaf can take the game used card to another level. A friend of mine, who has bought his share of fake patches, has volunteered to do this for Topps (though Topps doesn't care). Your customers should appreciate that you are not including the damaged cards into the product and I believe the correct decision has been made. Hell, I might be tempted to buy some of this, and I've spent less than $20 on wax all year.

My issue with the oversize patch is fakes. So, if an oversized patch is used, the cards should be numbered and a picture of each patch card should be kept on file so fakes can be verified quicker.

How about a metal card with a jumbo patch auto? Finest UFC has relic cards and they are chrome. Just a thought.

They are going to be put in an online database for public access, just like Rose.

I get pissed when I get 1 card in the mail damaged (espically if I really needed it).
I cant imagine a whole shipment of cards, Ichiro no less! ::facepalm::

C'mon BG, I would have shed a tear, or at least broke a knuckle on my desk.....

Not meaning to derail the thread, but wouldn't the images in such a database also serve as a template/blueprint for fakers using fake fabric & patches?

Edit: I guess in order for this to happen the s/n would need to be altered as well.

You should always try to do what you said you were going to do as much as possible, thus choice "A". Besides, choice "B" will require extra explanation.
Bingo.
