Need Vintage Help - Babe Ruth!!! Quickly

Ok.. I frequent a local Auction Sale every Friday night. I am always on the lookout for baseball cards. They always seem to have something every week pertaining to cards. Usually its nothing great but every so often they get something worth looking into.

This week the reason i went over to look beforehand was because of a few 1915 Cracker Jack cards along with a t206 card. When I got there I noticed something else. It is a Babe Ruth Fro Joy Ice Cream uncut Sheet. This auction goes off tonight so I am sure I will be there just to see what it sells for. I might be interested in as well.

An ebay auction listing below is the same type of item being auctioned off tonight just in case if you were unaware of the item I am talking about. Also I got a pic of the item off the Auction House website for you to look at. Its not the best picture.

So if anyone can help me out on this item. I was just curious to know what are the true signs if its a fake or not. To me seeing it in person it sure looks REAL to me. Also most of these back in the day were cut up and not kept uncut.

Don't bid.Some companies stopped bidding on them because of all the reprints.

I think the thinner edges are more like the original issue...unlike the eBay auction...but I could be confused.

There have been multiply reprints over the years including uncut sheets.

I am at work without any reference materials handy so I don't have answer for you.Unless you want it as a cheap novelty save your money.

"Capitalizing on the extreme popularity of Babe Ruth, these cards were given away with ice cream cones during the Aug. 6-11, 1928, “Fro-joy Cone Week.” The 2-1/16" x 4" cards have black-and-white photos on front with a title and a few sentences explaining the photo. Backs contain advertising for Fro-joy Ice Cream and Cones. An uncut sheet along with a large-format action photo of Ruth was available in a mail-in redemption offer. Virtually all uncut sheets offered in the market today, and all color Fro-joy cards are modern counterfeits. Purchase of an uncut sheet without the original mailing envelope and/or premium picture is not advised. Cards graded by a major authentication firm carry a significant premium due to the prevalence of single card counterfeits in the market."

I forgot to add that the 1915 Cracker Jack cards are Jimmy Austin,Roger Bresnahan,Bert Shotten and Bob Shawkey. They had a T206 card of Jerry Downs as well a card that even I couldn't identify of Amos Strunk. The Strunk card is the one in the bottom right hand corner

Oh Yeah... Did I mention they are extremely beat up cards. :lol:

Here is the picture of those cards as well but after seeing them I have my doubts they are even real just like the Ruth Fro Joy sheet.

they kind of look like reprints that have been "aged". I wouldn't touch them without documentation.

I agree. I know they are fakes which is why I kind of posted those cards for everyone to see. I was able to spot the FAKE characteristics quickly. I will go to this auction anyways just to see how much they go for since most won't be able to tell they are fake.

It looks to be a fake. The authentic cards the portrait card in upper left is more detailed in face. This sheet looks to have the characteristics of the reprint with the contrast too dark.

Thats all I can add, because picture is too small to see more.

99.9%+ of all out there are fakes, and there are at least 5-6 different kind.


PS Just noticed the pics.... the E145-2 Cracker Jack, M101-4/5, and the T206 cards are all 100% fake.... guaranteed. They are all reprints with design changes on front, easily seen.

when you see garbage fakes like these, assume they are all fake is you best bet.
