So well I am off from school and I have been thinking about this for a while. I think I am gonna start makeing and selling wooden baseball, bat, jersey and other display cases. I am gonna try to keep it kinda simple but good enough to sell. I would also like to make customizable ones, like ones were some one can tell me there player or team or what ever or what ever color inside they want and of course I will line it with fabric or something idk yet. But I am looking for suggestions and opinions and I would like to know what dimensions of what I make and what supplies I need. Please let me know your opinions and suggestions. I am gonna try to start making them tommorow.

Thanks!

If the quality is good enough, you can price it however you want and once you get it down, you should be able to turn them out quickly.

Avoid particle board its to hard to stain. Dry wall doesn't work to well, not sturdy enough. MDF is to heavy. Cardboard well... I need not explain.

likely not a possibility, but a frame made out of balsa would be awesome. It would weigh next to nothing to move around.

I'm actually in the process of making a wooden shelf to hang in my back bedroom. When I get done, I will most likely show it off here but I am designing it to hold BGS Slabs and it will be made using a 6'x6' slab of plywood, 8 game used bats from Minor Leaguers over the years (these will be the front of each shelf), green fabric, and some wooden trim I found at the hardware store.

I was just going to say that. If built correctly, it can also sustain a lot more weight the one would think.

A few summers ago, I made this. Were you talking about making a display case similar to it? The shelves are made of plexi glass and the front cover is made of a plexiglass with a high grade uv protection, and there's a hobby light in the top that I can turn on and off by remote. I was going to stain it or paint it black, but I was so proud that I hung it up and it's been there for about 3. The cards inside were just cards I threw in there, it can fit 5 cards on each shelf. I could get you the dimensions if you'd like to do one of similar size, but to hold graded cards, you may want to make the shelves a little more spaced (I think only 2 of the shelves hold graded cards on mine.. poor planning).

If this is nothing like what you're talking about then I apologize for the long post. I'm sitting in my only summer class (accounting, YUCK) and I'm bored to death.

It cost me about $35 to make, and took probably 3 hours?

Ohhh. I thought you meant that you were going to make a box (like the cardboard ones), but out of wood. If done correctly, those would be sick.

Consider IKEA for your lighting, they have several arm-mounted and flat light sources, including battery and ac powered.

dude are you serious? first of all you have a barn? second of all, you cant come here and expect to have somebody tell you every step of the process. It was a project you wanted to take on, and you have to figure things out yourself. Third of all, its dinner.

I agree. It sounds like you have no idea what you are doing. Maybe you should not be playing with a saw. If you are serious then plywood is not the best choice unless you use a veneer tape to cover the exposed edges. I would use 3/4 pine, mahogany, or walnut instead.
