Neftali Feliz to the bullpen. For now, and possibly longer

"We'd like to see if he's an option to help the Major League club in that role," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He's scheduled to throw an inning there tomorrow. We still feel he may start for us in the future but we're going down that road first."

Seems like they may be thinking long term as well. I've always pictured him as a reliever, to be honest.

Win some, lose some. Oh well.

YOu lost nothing yet....He will still end up as a starter in my opinion.

They NEED starting pitching. He will be a starter again in 2010.

Have you seen Feliz pitch? Do you actually have a leg to stand on when you say you picture him as a reliever? His arm produces the easiest 97-99 mph fastball I have ever seen. I watched him in the Texas League Championship last year and he threw 7 innings without ever posting a FB reading lower than 97 and might as well have been relaxing on the beach, it looked so simple for him.
Long story short... He will be a starter bar any unforeseen injury.

I would say that the GM of the Rangers does have a leg to stand, considering he can make any decision he wants about his players, lol.

I love posts like this.

I couldn't care less about:

A) How effortless Feliz looks
B) How many times you've seen him
C) What credentials I need

I said I've always pictured Feliz as a reliever. Just like I pictured Andy Marte being a total bust at the major league level. Just like I pictured the Nomar/Cabrera deal being a dud for the Sox. Just like I pictured Dustin McGowan being a perennial #1A behind Halladay. Just like I pictured Gustavo Chacin completely falling apart. Those are just off the top of my head.

So, you see, sometimes I picture things correctly, and other times I'm way off. From what I've seen of Feliz, he always just struck me as a power reliever. Maybe I'm leery of the way the Rangers develop starters (hint: very poorly) or maybe it's just a feeling. I dunno. I've never put too much thought into it.

As for my "leg to stand on", well the team's own GM did just say he's moving him to the pen and thinks he may wind up being a starter for them down the road, after they try him in the bullpen. That's a pretty sturdy leg, no?

For the record, no, I've never seen Feliz live and in person. But then again, I've never seen Albert Pujols in person, either. But I do picture him as a legitimate homerun threat.

When I invested in Neftali it was more from a fan type of perspective than anything else. I am happy to sit on these for as long as I need to; as Chris said, I think he will excel no matter where he is at.

I think the Rangers Gm is trying to win now, the bridge to Frankie/CJ Wilson from the pen is always a rough one for the Rangers this year, If he can come up and produce ala Joba then he will help the club compete for the pennant. Frankie is one of the best closers in the game when healthy, except the Rangers pen has trouble getting to him sometimes. Plus their offense has greatly cooled off recently so they aren't scoring runs and pitching becomes that more important. Would be cool to see him up in those pressure situations this year.

BTW yes I have some cards too and am not thrilled but I would love to see him up in the pen soon.

Reading your post comes off as if your rooting for him to be in the pen? Why do you care so much , if i may ask?

You've misinterpreted it, then. I honestly don't care in the slightest what becomes of him.
