HP 4570c scanner at 150 dpi. Straight scan, no editing other than cropping. Scanner lid up.

Pretty decent scan, for minimal effort.

Oh, it's a Paul Molitor PSA 9 MINT ball on an OMLB. The inscription says HOF 04.

Wow, I think I like this better than setting up a light box and taking a photo of the ball.

Good call and I think i'll start doing that. Never would've thought of it, thanks.

Looks good. Your scanner has a CCD element, right?

This will almost certainly not work with low-end scanner or all-in-one.

Correct, it has a CCD element. No way you get that with a CIS scanner. I have seen All In Ones with a CCD, but they are always in the $400+ price range. I don't know anyone that has ever purchased one of those.

Had a brain fart before the first scan. I got it all lined up in the middle of the scanner before realizing I was staring at the autograph and it needed to be face down.

I have been scanning my balls like that for years.

Only thing I do different is to lay a piece of white paper on top of the ball case when I scan them. I find it throws the light back and comes out better...

See scans of my balls using this method in the link in my sig......

I have a lower-end scanner and it doesn't work very well.

It does the job for me, but nothing close to leatherman's scan.
