Man, it's kind of a tease! Have to wait a whole 8 months before the product comes out! Should be hot though!!

tell me about it, I have to preorder soon and have no clue how many to ask for

If Chrome for last football season was any indication, a lot! Thats tough though because that is so late in the season but with the playoff push going on, there will be a lot of buzz!

No Pink or Camo refractors? They'll probably be in there unannouncedly, because 9 parallels isn't enough. Plus whatever retail exclusives. Maybe they'll be the Target/Walmart sets.

I'm sure I'll chase the 1972 set.

I am curious about the uncut X-fractor sheet. I actually might want to get those for my card room.

Anyway, they should be pretty sweet as usual with this year's design.

That is all.

2009 had Tommy Hanson, which were ridiculously hot at the time.
2010 had Strasburg, Heyward, Stanton, and Castro. Plus the wrapper redemptions.
2011 had Hosmer and Kimbrel. First Beachy autos I believe.

It hasn't been a dud for a long time in my opinion. Aside from curling and scratches and off-center cards...

Wax prices have all gone down shortly after release each time except 2012.

2010 was particularly horrible. Strasburg was SP (despite Topps' claim to the contrary) and scrub autos were popping up left and right. Wax prices plummeted, and you still had a good chance to lose your ass opening the stuff even at a huge discount.

Even the better players' autos are cheap compared to Bowman Chrome. This stuff doesn't hold value at all (unless they are SSP like Strasburg or Hosmer), and is a bad break for the price point considering what you normally get.

Absolutely right, I remember boxes of 2010 were DIRT cheap because they nearly doubled theprevious years print run, which forced them to add a ton of common rookie autographs. I think hobby boxes were getting UNDER $40 for a period of time, which is unheard of. People were busting boxes at discount prices of around $40 and were still losing money pulling 2 base autographs of guys like Mike McCoy, Jesse English, Tyler Colvin, Cesar "An auto so nice he signed em twice" Valdez, Kanekoa Texeria, Brandon Kicks, the John's (Link, Jay, Ely), Lance Zawadski, Drew Butera, Esmil Rogers, Daniel McCutchen, Ruben Tejada, Cole Gillespie, Alex Burnett, Luke Hughes, Kevin Russo........ do I really need to continue because I'm about to projectile vomit????

Well, I guess it depends on whether you're a 1) collector or flipper, and 2) true RC collector or major-league-uniform RC collector. I prefer the 2010 TC Stanton over the 2008 BC Stanton, the 2011 TC Teheran and Minor and Belt over the BC versions, etc., so that's where I'm coming from.

To me, the reason TC always bottoms out is the condition of the cards. 2010 had terrible warping and even worse surfaces, and 2011 had countless auto cards that were obviously mis-cut. 2012, aside from the awful Lawrie signatures, seemed to have none of those issues. On the other hand, I can't think of any Topps Chrome auto in the last 3 years that I would rather have less than Tyler Pastornicky or Liam Hendriks. I suppose maybe Alex Burnett in 2010, but even Josh Donaldson made you some money if you waited long enough.

**edit** oops there it is - Lance Zawadski

I don't think the condition is what bottoms out TC. Even if 90% of TC cards came out of the pack mint, they still wouldn't hold value because it's not a product most collectors care much about. "MLB RC" autos aren't as highly desired as their Bowman Chrome "prospect" counterparts. Even for players that don't have "prospect" Bowman Chrome autographs, their TC auto prices are depressed because it doesn't say "Bowman" on the card. Also, since TC can only have "MLB RC" autos (or second year players) and not prospects, the majority of the players will be "cup of coffee" type guys that aren't worth anything in the first place. For a product that sells for a shade under $800/case on release, it's just too expensive for what you get.

Says the person who has already posted 3 times in the thread... There is a huge glut of this stuff on ebay when it releases, so somebody cares. And if they stop caring, woohoo for me - more cheap singles on the secondary market and lower prices on a box. I'm not rippin' for flippin', so TC has what I want - non-prospect rookie autos and refractors. And I would buy a lot more if 90% came mint out of the box, that's for sure.

That said, definitely not looking to add Cesar Valdez or Cole Gillespie autos to my collection either.

The glut that comes out on release each year is from the rip and flippers who buy into hype and come away sorely disappointed. Some will swear they'll never open the product again, but of course they do it again next year. It's a vicious cycle.

If TC is what you collect great. Nothing wrong with that. To each their own. My point is that this product is way overpriced for what is it if you're looking to rip and flip, since interest from collectors in general is tepid.

I've collected every year of Topps Chrome and didn't buy any 2010 due to the warping.

2010 was definitely a stinky year but mostly b/c of the warped cards. Horrible. Hopefully that never happens again. Bowman Chrome from that year had similar issues. The auto checklist wasn't bad - it has some sleepers. Stras, Stanton, Starlin Castro, Heyward, Santana, Jay, Leake, AJax, Nova, Heisey...that's just off the top of my head. Probably forgetting a couple good ones.

This year will definitely have autos of Machado, Bundy, Profar, Shelby Miller, Mike Olt, Tyler Skaggs and I'm sure at some point Wil Myers, d'Arnaud, Billy Hamilton, Sano, etc will be called up and a couple of those will be inserted in the auto checklist as well.
