With this steroid era clearing up, and lot of THE STAR players (maddux, bonds, johnson, glavine, pedro, etc) retiring or reaching their last few years in the MLB, who do you believe will be the new STAR/Faces of baseball?
. Evan Longoria
Broke into the starting line up a month or so after opening day and won ROY and had all star honors in his rookie year. With his bat AND GLOVE he helped lead the rays along with BJ and Pena to the WS.
Tim Lincecum
Lincecum spent very little time in the minors before he made the starting rotation in 2007. He had an impressive rookie season striking out 150. His 4.00 ERA is very deceiving as he had many quality starts, but the Giants really were cautious with his arm.
In his sophmore season, Lincecum made the All Star team and lead the league in many categories, most notably Strikeouts at 265 and second in wins and ERA. He Zito and Clemens are the only ones (I think) to win the CY Young at the age of 24
Justin Upton
Debut: 2007
Break out: 2009
J-Up is only 21 years old and is having a very impressive 09 season so far hitting for Average and power. A true 5-tool player.
David Wright
He's been in the leagues for a while but hes only 26-27 and has already established himself as one of the top players currently in the game. Has put up several .300 AVG 30HR seasons and has two golden gloves under his belt already.
Jay Bruce
BIG TIME POWER. People will note that his HR numbers may be the result of the park he players in, but he just absolutley destroys the ball, in any park. Oh and he's 21-22.
Dustin Pedroia
2007 AL ROY
2008 MVP, SIlver Slugger, Golden Glove, AS
Jeez.
Chad Billingsley
Very under the radar at the moment. Had a huge season for the dodgers last year and its safe to say he'll have many more big seasons throughout his career.
8. Miguel Caberera
Big guy, with big HR numbers and still very young.
. Ryan Zimmerman
Already the star of the young Nationals team. Earlier this season he had 30+ game hit streak and continues to mash the ball.
. Hanley
30-30 guy, but weak at SS
, Ryan Braun
NL ROY 2007, and had another 30+ HR season in 2008, big time power hitter who can also hit for average
Justin Morneau
2006 AL MVP, continues to hit for power with 30+ HR and is 27.
And since i forgot catchers:
Mauer
McCann
Just missed:
Joey Votto (a bit older) Matt Kemp, Matt Cain, Jacoby Ellsbury,
EDIT: Forgot MAUER ugh
