I was just looking at the HR numbers by ballpark so far this season, and the only two parks with less HRs per game are the Giants, and the Nationals. The Giants we've known is a dead zone for power, and the Nationals haven't been so up until this season. Which is probably due the great pitching they've gotten so far.

However, the new Marlins park is not even averaging 1 HR a game up to this point. I think we have another Citi Field situation starting to emerge.

I was hoping for a big year from Stanton, but I'm doubting it's going to happen.

So you want your park (what ever team you follow) to be a hitter friendly park?.....thus putting stress on your pitching staff.....
I don't care must for the long ball in any park. I just like to see you can pop one out every once and awhile though, unless your in colorado then you can most of the time think long ball as a given in a game......look at yesterday's stat from there

I'm not saying I like it to be hitter friendly. I'm just stating that it doesn't appear that it's going to be a hitter friendly park. Thus, Stanton isn't likely to hit as many HRs. Which many here were hoping for.

My favorite team (Tigers) has one of the most pitcher friendly parks. That too can be annoying at times. It might be the boring answer, but I like them to be fair to both.

Not a boring answer at all, I was thinking in the same lines as you....make it even and see what happens lol

I forgot all about that thing. I wonder what it looks like as well.

You can see a little bit of it here from Stanton's homerun today:

As for the park, it is definitely a bit annoying when you were hoping for a big year out of a guy like Stanton and it seems that his own park is going to be one of his biggest nemeses. Seems the ball definitely flies better with the roof closed.

After watching this current series, I have to say that home run "art" is one of the most god-awful things I've ever seen. Not a fan of the new ballpark really, but I guess I can't really say till I've been.

I like the new park and I like how they didnt try to make it look like it is 100 years old.

What will be telling will be the end of season home/road splits for Stanton's HRs. He doesn't get many cheap home runs in any park, so it may affect him less than others.

I went the a Cubs vs. Marlins game down there earlier this month and I can tell you that it is definitely a very nice ballpark that will probably favor pitchers. The power alleys to center field are very deep and the outfield wall is quite tall. It was a reasonably warm day when I attended and the ball didn't carry well. David DeJesus absolutely crushed a ball to left center field that would have been a home run in many ball parks and it died at the warning track. I expect it to play as one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball.

My brother went the game on Saturday. He had the same feeling. He did say that it was super nice.

I've always wondered why teams have such super high fences in the deepest parts of their parks. It seems more common than ever now. Someone should build a new stadium with super short waist high fences like the old Tiger Stadium. Guys got robbed on HRs all the time if they were just barely deep enough. But not cheated on bombs to center hitting off a 15 ft wall.

This is a great concept right here. I always thought it was fun to watch games in parks like Minute Maid and Fenway with the high but close fences, but I could live without them. For a player to hit a homer this way, he still has to hit it notably farther than the distance from home to the fence because of the height. But you hit it right on the head when you talk about new parks with enormous dimensions AND overly high walls.

And just in general, wouldn't it make sense to make the corners and power alleys the deepest parts of the field? I hate watching Miguel Cabrera hit a 418 foot line drive to straight away center in Comerica Park that gets caught on the warning track. I mean, 418 feet to any part of the park should be a homerun, but for a guy to hit a ball that hard and far to straightaway center and not be rewarded with a homerun is a shame.

As a side note, it would be incredibly fun to design a baseball field.

I think the Marlins staff is still trying to figure out where to put the blowers. ;)

I'm still disappointed they tinted the playing-field side of the aquarium so I can't watch the fish in the background during a broadcast.
