New Paperless Ebay Payments

OK, I don't trust Paypal as far as I can spit. As a seller my policy has always to accept Paypal from U.S. bidders only, and Int'l bidders had to send a MO. Policy worked great, I could insure my US shipments & let the buyers assume all the risk on the foreign orders.

So now I'm roped into having to accept Paypal on all of my orders, regardless of foreign or domestic. What do I do, only accept US orders or take my chances that some Intl scumbag says he never got his item & Paypal returns his $?

I question this policy bigtime - it's my business, why can't I accept any form of payment that I want?

Just withdraw your paypal money as soon as you have it. Only accept payments from internationals who have pristine feedback.

You can still accept them....it just wont show up until the buyer goes through the Checkout process.....and then it will show all your forms of payment accepted.......at least mine still does and I have won items within the last week from other sellers that had the same setup.

Here is what I posted in the previous thread about this same issue..

For me it means nothing changes.. I removed any payment from other options last October when this was supposed to be starting. If a buyer ask's me if I accept MO, I have said yes..

The other option would be to get your own payment process set up since they allow it. (#2 choice)

You are correct, you can not mention "Cash", "Check", or "Money Order", but if you abide by the rules they have set and take that out and set it up correctly, you should be 100% unaffected by the changes.

Like I said, I have it set up that when people go through the checkout process, it prompts them to use PAYPAL, but underneath the PAYPAL area, they have the option to choose, check, money order, bank transfer, etc...and buyers use that all the time.

Thats not my issue - I dont want to give Int'l buyers a choice, I want them to use MOs. & for me to do that fairly I have to state it clearly in my Int'l buyer policy in my item description. Otherwise they win my auction & it gets messy when I insist on paper payment.

Paypal does not get your back when an Int'l deal goes wrong, you can trust me on this.

Well then, on PAYPAL, you can block international transactions, and you can also block it through ebay as well. They are not forcing you to take PAYPAL from international bidders........just have international bidders email you before bidding for Shipping and Payment options. I have that stated in my auction and they all email me and it is never an issue...

For Canada, just set up, and document clearly any shipping changes or fees you have for Canadian buyers and it should not be a problem.

Now dont get me wrong, I agree I think eBay and PayPal are getting a little greedy, but it is a BIG Business and they are just putting more money in their pocket and it is their site and their rules....so you pretty much have to do it the way they want you to, but there are ways around it without breaking any rules.

Bottom line here is, there are VERY VERY VERY few international bidders that will have any problems with if you ship the card out timely after payment. I charge $3.00 shipping no matter where it is in the world, and I have NEVER had a problem, either through PAYPAL or eBay or my DSR's...everything is clearly spelled out in my auction as well as payment options and emailing me before bidding.

I agree with you, it is nice to have all forms accepted....but think of it from eBay's perspective, as they also own PAYPAL, only makes sense as a business to make this change.....it will equal tons more revenue for them as more people are forced to sign up for PAYPAL------plus for eBay it is a bit easier to streamline transactions between the 2 and settling disputes etc.

Personally, aside from the fees associated with PAYPAL, I dont mind the change because I am now getting my money quicker and have had very few problems waiting out the dreaded few that always seem to lose their money orders.

Now I will always accept all forms of payment because I dont ever want to lose out on potential bidders, but it is not all bad news by the changes.
