So, very, very sad! Too much sadness in the news lately....thoughts and prayers to his family......

+1 a future competitor. looked like a great young pitcher on the rise and i was looking forward to facing him in the division. very sad. speechless. just heard the news a second ago and i can imagine what the famiy is going through and my thoughts and prayers are with them.

Because all the other sources haven't been reliable? There isn't anything new being reported.

No, but it was known from all along that Escobar wouldn't be back for the beginning of the season. He missed all of last season and originally wasn't supposed to be back until June.

Loux, Moseley, and Adenhart would have been competing for the last spot in the rotation.

ESPNEWS reports 2 others killed. Adenhart and 1 other were taken to the hospital. Adenhart died after surgery.

That's horrible, My prayers go to his family.

On an even sadder note, watch his cards go up and the people who have the nerve to make money off of it. Remember Corey Lidle cards and items?

I was actually going to list mine just as a result of his performance, but I'm not going to now.


But, that's neither here nor there. A (by all accounts) great person and emerging ballplayer lost in a tragedy. Truly a sad day. My thoughts also out to the family (and to you, Skrip, since you're a little bit closer than the rest of us).

Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was one of three people killed early Thursday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Fullerton.

The crash took place only hours after the 22-year-old pitcher played in last night's Angels game.

Police say the driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and struck two cars, killing three people in a Mitsubishi and critically injuring a passenger.

Police Lt. Craig Brower says the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run.

Police say the van ran the red light early Thursday and struck the gray Mitsubishi, which then slammed into a light pole. Two people in the Mitsubishi died instantly, and a third died at a hospital a short time later.

A fourth occupant was in critical condition at UC Irvine Medical Center in
Orange.

A passenger in the van was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Must be tremendously hard on the Angels Team considering many of the players this year are young and came up with Adenhart through the system (Wood, Aybar, Morales, Napoli, Mathis). It might help to have Abreu there to provide experience (Lidle) in handling a tragedy like this.

And like NEC...first Mask, now Nick...I hated driving in SoCal but this is just sad.

One of the founders of TapOut. He was killed by a drunk driver a few weeks ago.

To add to this...

Charles "Mask" Lewis Jr. was one of the originators of TAPOUT and a legend/pioneer in the MMA world. He was killed by a drunk driver after he left a photo shoot with his girlfriend.

The driver was an already convicted drunk driver, and he hit them so hard the car of Mask split in two pieces.

I don't understand what it is with people in FL and CA, but people seem to get killed at an alarming rate on the roads. So sad.

yes. Is there a minor league affiliate of the angels in close proximity to anaheim? It seems that the possibility of another big leaguer being involved is minimal, but it could also be someone in the clubhouse or another employee.
