What is going on w/ this franchise? I'm fairly a new fan of them but what is going on w/ them.
I see all these rumors of them trading Harris, which to me is a joke becuase he's the only semi-bright spot on the team. Lopez is good but overall pretty weak against tougher opponents and basic ball handling needs improvement. Favors just isnt as good as advertised and the rest of the team is ok.
I also think Avery needs to be fired becuase he's not using his players to their strengths.

This proposed deal for Melo is a JOKE...also.

I am a Nets fans. This melo stuff is getting a little out of hand. It seems likes the question is, is Melo willing to come to NJ? If he is I would make the deal. Anthony could bring other stars, (Chris Paul), to Newark and in 2012 Brooklyn

Seems to be a horrible deal for the Nets.

I guess they get their superstar - which is what they seem to want......but as constructed I don't think they'll be scaring the top of the Eastern conference anytime soon.
I guess I'm not sold Anthony is the type of talent that makes everyone around him substantially better.

If this goes through (or simply assuming he goes to NY or NJ at some point) I think Durant should be the happiest player in the league......everyone seems to be migrating or wanting to go to Eastern teams. If/when the Spurs and Lakers fall off, at least in my eyes the Thunder are putting themselves in position to dominate the Western Conference.

Something that was brought up on sportscenter was the idea that landing Melo would make the Nets a lot more of an interesting destination for Chris Paul. Paul, Melo, and Lopez would be a pretty good core.

I just heard that Melo wont agree to anything unless the Knicks wont pony up more in their end of the trade.
Right there tells you he doesnt want to come to NJ and will only because the Knicks fall flat on their part.

Latest - Denver and NY are going to be talking via conf. call very shortly to discuss the carmelo deal. The Knicks are just iffy about tossing Gallinari into the deal.
I have a feeling..when all said and done...Melo will be a Knick, which is what he wants anyway.

As for using Melo to attract other stars.....I'm sure that's true......but you know what they say about the best laid plans. If Melo goes to NJ just ask the Knicks how that can work out.

How is that any different than other sports? The Celtics were terrible for quite a few years, and they made the moves to make there team good for a stretch. In every sport there are good teams and bad teams, and the bad teams can't get good overnight.

It's more the contract talk and what not - Like Dwight Howard....what happens next year really is of no consequence at the moment....You watch a show like ATH and there was like 5 minutes on Carmelo and not a word on the Bulls/Spurs game last night.....and teams throwing away seasons with the "hope" of signing players years in the future.
I guess in some regards it is like baseball.....in the NBA there is an ever-increasing gap between the have and have-nots.

I see this scenario and the many like it off-putting. I know last season as a Bulls fan it was a joke....I didn't go to one game because the team didn't care about last year, so why should I. I realize those moves worked for the Bulls and I'm thankful for that, but it also easily could have blown up in their face.
You see far less of that.....and personally I feel it's one of the many reasons it's soared beyond every major sport.

I guess I don't really see the difference in coverage. Look at the Pujols talk in baseball, and he is still 162 games away from the end of his contract. Melo is under 40 games away.

I think the big difference is basketball has a more strict cap (dollar for dollar luxury tax) than baseball. The best way to construct a team is to either go for it all the way, or blow up the team and rebuild. It's frustrating for fans, but it works out in the long run. I'd rather suffer through a few years with a terrible team if it meant having a chance to compete for a title. I think ownership has realized this and started to trend away from the shortsighted moves that keep teams in the middle of the pack and keeps them from advancing beyond the middle of the standings in the future.

You're probably right.....there probably has been a paradigm shift in regards to the best way to "build" a team and it's something I've got to get used to. I suppose I'll just be happy for the time being that the Bulls aren't in that bottom third of the league.

I also guess it is same to some extent in the other sports......I guess it's just a personal thing and for whatever reason a lot of the stuff in the NBA has irked me the past couple years. That stuff is great in the off-season, it's great for a couple weeks leading up to a trade deadline.....but it just seemed like it was beginning to extend far beyond that.

I expect we'll see some kind of franchise tag come out of the new agreement to help prevent this. Stern has said that he doesn't like how we've heard about Melo for so long and have already started hearing about Paul and Howard.
