This guy is unbelievable, I thought he was done for sure after last season's injury and boy has he proven me wrong. Improved to 16-3 tonight after throwing a CG, 1-hit shutout. His ERA is 2.16 and WHIP .97 on a 1st place team... has he distanced himself from the pack?

I see absolutely no reason Carpenter would win over Wainwright or Lincecum.

Wainwright will get the nod over Carpenter for the fact that he's helped carry the Cardinals the ENTIRE season, while Carpenter obviously missed some time. And Wainwright's numbers are not much worse than Carpenters.

But on that, Lincecum's numbers, put side by side to Carpenter's are nearly identical or better in just about every category...and Lincecum has pitched all season.

Also, Wainwright and Carpenter will take votes from one another...so I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Lincecum sneak in and take it.

Nope.

I'm still going with Wainwright.

Wainwright has 17 wins (seems like the voters love the W total), ERA of 2.68 (bad outing last time out, still got the W), and he's been the Cardinals rock the entire season. I think he went 7+ IP in every start but his last in his last like 25? starts.

Carpenter and Lincecum are right there with him, but I just give the nod to Waino.

Carpenter missing 4-5 starts just kinda takes some of his greatness away too, but when he has been pitching, he's been absolutely dominant.

Not even close on the 7+ each start. He went 6 innings two starts ago.

Yeah, sorry. He went 6+ IP in 26 straight starts this year after looking it up.

If I was voting, I still wouldnt know. Each guy has what 3-4 starts left? If Carpenter continues to be dominent, then yes, I think he wins. If we are looking at 19 or 20-3. With an Era of around 2.00, I dont see how he couldnt win it.

Okay, that's much more realistic...
Ubaldo Jimenez actually has a streak of 25 straight like that right now.

Actually if I had to guess right now I would give it to Dan Haren.

;)
Alright I am just kidding myself by saying that. I don't think Wainwright or Carpenter will win it simply because they will be taking votes away from each other like Sly already said. As much as I hate to say it I think Lincecum makes it 2 in a row.

Lincecum better win out. At 13 wins, despite run suport, he has zero chance if Carpenter or Wainright hit 20 wins.

This is what looked like last year, lincecum had great numbers, but the wins were iffy. He then had a hot streak and Brandon Webb ballooned his ERA (to over 3).

Anything can happen, and its neck and neck...and neck.

Giants better have not used up all their runs today.

And i can't believe lincecum has 8 starts where has given up 2 ER or less and didn't get the win...

Also how many innings CG does each pitche rhave. For some reason voters love the Shut outs, innings, cg and Ks :P

Time to analyze...

Here are the three front runners by the numbers:

Carpenter (24 starts):
16-3 (2nd), 2.16 ERA (1st), 129 K (26th), 0.97 WHIP (2nd)

Wainwright (29 starts): 17-7 (1st), 2.68 ERA (4th), 169 K (5th), 1.23 WHIP (16th)

Lincecum (28 starts): 13-5 (7th), 2.34 ERA (2nd), 233 K (1st), 1.02 WHIP (3rd)

Definitely a dead heat down the stretch; I'd still give it to Carpenter because of the Cards success, his comeback, and the fact that his WHIP and ERA are so impressive (provided he finishes strong).

Not gonna lie, both cardinals have been very impressive.

I so wish lincecum had pujols (the best hitter in the league) matt holliday, ryan ludwick, mark derosa behind him!

Sadly and I know it sounds strange but Carp and Wain get the least run support of all the Cardinals pitchers I dont have facts just guesstimating But I think I am right Carp/Waino have had a lot of close games 3 runs or less for each team

Pineiro didn't get a lot in the beginning of the year. That's why he's only 14-9 as opposed to 17-9 or so.

Such starts where got the ND or L include.. 7 IP, 1 ER.. 7 IP, 3 ER.. 6.1 IP, 3 ER.. 7 IP, 1 ER.. 7 IP, 2 ER.. 8 IP, 1 ER.

See what I mean? :)

Yes everyone assumes because they got DeRosa/Holliday that they had them all year The Cardinals run support was anemic for the first 85 games

I'm sorry this is a nose-race to the finish. No one is the clear front-runner. It's amazing the Cardinals have two of the three candidates.

Honestly? Who gives a crap if Carpenter has missed 4 or 5 starts? Watching Timmy, Wainwright, and Carpenter pitcher the past two months, it is clear to me that Carpenter is the better of the 3. And the stats are not dramatically afar where Carpenter's absence is a factor.

All three have pitched extremely well and there is no lock. But as of right now it is Carpenter.

That could totally change in a week (to illustrate my point)

DeRosa hasn't even been that great either, lol.

Just curious, how have you been watching Lincecum, Wainwright, and Carpenter pitch the past two months?

I've seen every single start of Waino and Carp's, but I haven't been able to watch a single start of Lincecum's.

I go by what I see of Waino and Carp, and to be honest, they're almost exactly the same. Wainwright just seems like more of a workhorse, and able to get out of any trouble he may occur, while Carpenter seems like a stopper who can almost always be relied on to go 7 IP, 2 ER. Lincecum, I honestly do not not know how he looks, but I can go off his stats and highlights, which tell me that he has been unbelievable.
