Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Kershaw and Lee 9/20

Kershaw gets #20. I don't see any argument you can make that would give the Cy Young to anyone else at this point.

Kershaw
226 IP, 20 Wins, 2.27 ERA, 53 BB, 242 K, 0.99 WHIP, 2 Shutouts, 5 Complete Games, .208 BAA

Halladay
227 IP, 18 Wins, 2.41 ERA, 34 BB, 217 K, 1.05 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 8 Complete Games, .239 BAA

Lee
226 IP, 16 Wins, 2.42 ERA, 42 BB, 232 K, 1.03 WHIP, 6 Shutouts, 6 Complete Games, .229 BAA

Kennedy
216 IP, 20 Wins, 2.88 ERA, 52 BB, 194 K, 1.08 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 1 Complete Game, .227 BAA

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Kershaw and Lee 9/20

congrats to Kershaw on joining the 20 game winner club. Eighth inning was a little shaky, but Jansen had his back and Guerra was great in the 9th.

there's no doubt who I'm rooting for to win the CY, and I believe he's done enough to justify winning the award over the other very deserving candidates.

edit: ummm, what's up with certain names being automatically linked to Tom Brady autos?

Weird, not sure how that happened.

meant to say 'auctions', not 'autos'. I tried to recreate it in a new thread to bring it to the attention of the board, but it didn't link the names there, even when I cut & pasted one of the posts above.

Congrats to Roy and Ian on great years but after tonight and looking at all the season stats I don't see how Kershaw doesn't get the Cy now.

Keith Law is a voter this year for it. Keith Law will vote this, Lee, Halladay, and Kershaw 3rd.

I think Kershaw deserves it. It just depends now on how the writers vote.

There may be some voters who give a lot of weight to making a playoff appearance and would choose someone else over Kershaw, but there is no clear #2 since Lee and Halladay have very similar numbers and pitch for the same team. Who do you vote for?

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Ian Kennedy 9/24

Kennedy going for #21 although it probably won't matter. Nice little outing so far:

6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Ian Kennedy 9/24

Kennedy is done after 6 innings with an 11-2 lead so I'll give him the win. Kershaw and Halladay both go tomorrow. Kind of an important game for the Phils after losing 8 straight.

Kershaw
226 IP, 20 Wins, 2.27 ERA, 53 BB, 242 K, 0.99 WHIP, 2 Shutouts, 5 Complete Games, .208 BAA

Halladay
227 IP, 18 Wins, 2.41 ERA, 34 BB, 217 K, 1.05 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 8 Complete Games, .239 BAA

Lee
226 IP, 16 Wins, 2.42 ERA, 42 BB, 232 K, 1.03 WHIP, 6 Shutouts, 6 Complete Games, .229 BAA

Kennedy
216 IP, 21 Wins, 2.88 ERA, 54 BB, 196 K, 1.09 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 1 Complete Game, .227 BAA

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/25

Halladay is done for the day and throws 6 shutout innings, though it probably won't matter.

6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Kershaw should be starting soon. Only chance Halladays has now is if Kershaw implodes today.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/25

Kershaw pitching against a pretty sorry Padres lineup is throwing a nice game nonetheless.

6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Just checked to see how many games he pitched against the weakest offenses in the N.L. and he had 10 starts against the Giants, Padres, and Astros. I don't think voters will take that into account though. (Out of the 16 NL teams, they are 13th, 15th, and 16th ranked teams in both Runs Scored and OPS. Pirates are 14th)

FWIW, Halladay has 5 starts against the 4 worst scoring teams. A small thing, but you have to wonder what Halladay's ERA would look like by pitching 5 more times against the 4 worst teams rather than the better offensive teams.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/25

Kershaw has won the pitching triple crown.

Not even a complete game shutout from Lee tommrrow would take away the ERA title and it would take 17 strikeouts to overtake him as the strike out king.

If history is any precedent Kershaw has just won the Cy Young, no pitcher has won the pitching triple crown without winning the Cy Young since the award was invented. Only eight pitchers have done it since 1963 (Koufax did it three times and Clemens twice.)

Looking at the numbers, I'm not completely convinced that Kershaw was not the best pitcher in baseball this season. Verlander has gotten the hype, but Kershaw had a lower ERA and had a better K/9. Verlander had a fabulous season, but to me Kershaw's was really no less impressive.
