After seeing the highlights this season of multiple benches clearing, then seeing the bullpens come out soon after, is anyone with me in thinking that they shouldnt clear the benches, but let the two players involved just go at it, like hockey?

and the batter gets to use the bat...

thoughts?

I love to see the benchs clear it doesn't happen to often so it makes it more fun.

If the batter uses his bat does that mean the pitcher could then fire baseballs at him?

That'll never happen. More likely they outlaw bench clearings before they make it an exclusive fight like hockey.

Funny thought though.

If they want to stop brawls:
-make it an automatic 10 or 15 game suspension for leaving the dugout.
-If you charge the mound, make it an automatic 10 or 15 game suspension.
-If the umpires believe you threw at a hitter make it an automatic 14 or 19 game suspension(so they miss 2 or 3 starts).

Problem solved.

Haha yup, that'd do it.

Nice answers guys. Yeah, this is something i think about every year, and figured id ask the board. See if i was the only one :)

Using the bat, well that was icing on the cake. But i think the two involved should get to go at it. Its like they act all tough and get mouthy, knowing full well they wont throw a punch because the benches will clear and their teammates will "hold them back". It all looks like a bunch of schoolyard bs. Would they be as lippy if they knew that they had to put up or shut up?

They should still clear the benches. Then everyone circles up while 2 go at it. The bullpen players and bench players chant FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT while in the circle. The fight will go 3 rounds or Bonus Innings as they will be called. Rounds will be one minute each and there is a 30 second break between rounds in which the manager will talk fight strategy with his player. After the fight the LOSER is suspended for 5 games, because he shouldn't be such a sissy. The fight would be judged by professional Boxing Refs who will review video footage in an office in a location TBD. This I believe would be the most effective fighting in baseball.

Why soften the game up?I see nothing wrong with benches clearing. When a pitcher throws at a batter he knows what he could be signing up for.

Normally the pitcher already did. That's why that bat is fair. 90 ball intended to hurt vs bat. Would stop some Hbp injuries.

Ummm..

NO

lets have a hitter run at full speed make contact with a pitcher at less momentum meaning the pitcher 9/10 times can become injured. Oh yea an if u dont allow bench clearing brawls what would it be the hitter and guy in the batter box an maybe a player or 2 from the team at bat on base versus the 9 players the other team have out in the field.

Next lets say if the home team nails the star hitter on the away team they when the away team is up they shouldnt try an brush back the other teams starter. Eye for a eye is how its always been an always should be.

Think there should be a designated "tuff guy" on each team ready to rumble.

Sorry pirate fans......

Players could also joust with their bats. Like sitting on motorized coolers or something on the warning track. Teams would have to spend money souping up their battle whip. In the battle each team would have 1 contestant wearing a chest protector and old school catching mask start from the left and right field corner meeting in the middle and whoevers death whip was the fastest wins the fight. A run then would be added to the winning teams score.

That's why I think they should give VERY harsh penalties for intentional throwing, leaving the dugout, and charging the mound if they really want to get rid of violence in baseball altogether. When players start losing a month's salary they will learn their lesson.
