I have acquired a few of these over the years and have heard some reports that these are actually facsimile Autos and others say they are real. Anyone who knows for sure, would love to find out. I have never seen any of them slabbed which leads me to believe they are in fact facsimiles....

Re: Nolan Ryan Autograph Picture Question--Who can Help???

I don't think that I have ever seen a facsimile in blue sharpie. They are usually black pen when they are facsimiles.

edit: It looks real, especially because you can see through the blue ink.

Let me say this...I have about 10 of these and they are very very tough to tell in person....I cant tell if it is or not.....

I dont really want to risk authenticating them w/out a 100% for sure they are real as it just isnt worth the waste of the money.

Nolan used those for TTM requests and as far as I know they are real.

Re: Nolan Ryan Autograph Picture Question--Who can Help???

It's hard to tell from just one example. If they are facsimile autos, they will be in the same position and be signed exactly the same on every card. These type of autographs are pretty easy to spot if you have more than one example.

If the autograph is signed with an autopen, it can be more difficult to spot. The autographs will be identical, but can be signed in different locations, depending on how the item was placed under the autopen. While autopen signatures are often mistaken for real signatures, you can often tell by two large 'dots' of ink that will be at the very beginning and end of the autograph where the machine was placed on and removed from the item. It's hard to tell from the scan, but the card you posted may be signed with an autopen.

If you can close a larger scan or a second example, it may be easier to determine whether the signatures are real or not.

I would go with an autopen because as from what I can tell they are all signed in the exact spot. The other giveaway for me is that there have been ZERO of these authenticated---well unless you count the 1 Authenticated by *** (YIKES!!!)

And they sell for a wopping .99 cents to $5 which also leads me to believe they just are really good facsimiles or Autopens...

Its an auto pen. Me and my brother each got that TTM request back in the early 90's, the autos were exactly the same. I remember he got his back about 2 weeks before mine came back. We thought his was authentic and we were very happy. Then mine came in and we realized it was exact same size and same everything. Thats actually how we learned of the auto pen when we were younger.

I have one also. I had to look for it and scan it. I would say autopen. Mine however looks to be in a different place.

EDIT: The autos look a little different upon further comparisons. Maybe they are real.

These 2 autos look very different to me. I'm no expert,
but the variations in the letters look different to me.
The "N" "l" "R" and the last "n" all look different to me.

You can see in the close up photos that the autographs exhibit the tell-tale pressure points of an autopen. The discrepancy seen in some of the examples is probably simply because they have used various autopens over the years. If people have been receiving these since at least the early 90's, I'm sure there are at least a few different versions of the signature out there.

Maybe he did hand sign some of them? Maybe he just changed the matrix in his autopen or he owns a few different auto pens? Is there any touch points that you guys can notice in yours? or do they just all flow together?
