Very happy with the result. I wish the ownership situation would have been taken care of before the draft and trading deadline(we still didn't do too bad). Most hardcore Ranger fans wanted nothing to do with Cuban.

Cuban was afraid this was going to happen to him if he kept bidding higher.....

I don't think this deal is over, I really think there will be a lawsuit over the valididty of the bidding process so we will see how it all plays out...baseball is afraid of Mark Cuban and his spending habits. Its a shame as it would be interesting to see some younger owners in the game.

Mr. Ryan this
Mr. Ryan that
Mr. Ryan blah blah blah.

This article sucks. Call him Ryan, or Nolan Ryan, and maybe throw in a "Mr. Ryan" every here and there, but it drives me crazy when someone does that in an article/write-up. Swap your freakin' noun usage up a little, would ya?

I can understand preferring Ryan over Cuban, but there is no arguing that Cuban would have instantly become one of the best owners in baseball.

Maybe, better than Hicks for sure. But if Cuban would have won, both Ryan and probably Jon Daniels(along with several important scouts) would have been gone. Nolan Ryan is a deity in Texas. Most of the major pieces were here when he arrived, but him becoming team president gave the Rangers instant credibility and raised what was expected of every player. If Nolan thought you were soft, you were gone. The years of settling for .500 were over. Daniels has made some bad deals(Eaton for Gonzalez and Young), but his trades and scouts have built the farm system into what it is today. Many fans were afraid that all the work of building the team through youngsters would have been thrown away for free agent spending. Cuban's motives in the bidding were questioned as well. He knew he had no chance of being approved by MLB. They had already shot down one ownership bid and he had done nothing to improve his reputation since. Cuban owns some of Tom Hick's debt. He was going to take a hit when they come out of bankruptcy. It has also been reported that some of the major debt holders like Chase Bank encouraged him to get involved in the bidding to improve their take of the sale. Cuban says his stake was minor but it makes you wonder.

Greenberg has made it clear that while he may be involved, Ryan and Daniels will run the show. I trust them making baseball decisions more than Cuban.
