The players donate their time as part of a fund-raiser for cancer research.

Plus Lars on that day was extremely nice to everyone, joking around and playing with cancer kids and was a class act to anyone who came up to him even after they were supposed to be done signing.

Hard to be a bust when you are 20/21 in AA. Different players/ player types, but the stats that Hanley Ramirez put up as a 20/21 year old in Red Sox AA were eerily similar for the first 4 months of the same level for Lars.

I've built a stash this season at a fraction of the prices they were originally going for. If I were to sell today, I'd actually still take a loss, but I think that he really can't go down anymore.

Next year will be very interesting. He certainly can't do worse, and one year experience under his belt will surely help. Scouts seem to be split 50-50 on him.

I'm still a believer...today.

I am still a believer as well. He had a tough time adjusting to AA, and was hurt (hamstring) this season. I think he's still got the skills to be productive, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a breakout year for Lars next season. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him turn into the next Pat Dodson.

As far as him being a "*****," I couldn't disagree more. I met him at the same event Beefy did, and he was very nice to everyone. Signed mutliples for me, talked to me and the wife and our friends and was very pleasant. After he was done signing, we stopped him for a photo, and he was very gracious and put his arm around me for a picture. I think he is a fine person, and his auto isn't half bad as some I have seen.

Meeting a player at an event they are paid to be at or required to be at by the team is not a very accurate indication of whether they're a jerk or not.

Theplayers are neither paid nor required to be at the event I was at. I have met plenty of first class A-holes at events where they were paid to be there and for which I paid for the auto.

They are effectively the same thing.

I should know by now not to say anything negative about a Red Sox player, or else the Red Sox apologists come out in full force.

I posted a picture of Lars and a stuffed bear. Many people would just pose for the picture and be miserable, some (HANSBOROUGH when he was paid to be there by Panini) would just refuse the picture totally, Lars went out of his way to make sure it was a good picture. He won points with me that day.

And for every one of those, there's a follow up "woe is me, I can't say anything bad or else I get piled on" post. Both are equally annoying, and neither actually add to a conversation.

And, neither did I, I'm well aware.

Or you should learn your facts about the Jimmy Fund before you insert your foot in your mouth... There is a difference between a guest appearance at a cancer research fundraiser, where the player does not get paid, and a mandated player appearance for the team, where the player receives an appearance fee. And in the spirit of the charity it was for, I'll kick $10 to the Jimmy Fund if you can show me where the players in attendance got paid for the appearance.

And +1 to bungle's post. I agree.

So by saying he was nice at the event we were at, we are apologists?? Just wanted to make sure I understand your thought process.

I think now is a great time to pick a few up.

Right now, relatively low risk for a chrome auto, and a really good room for investment if he starts hitting again.

If I was still buying and selling actively, I would be getting a few of them

i feel sorry for all those that bit on the hype and plucked them out of the gate... hope they cost average.

A Red Sox player initially overhyped? Really?

Our opinion doesn't matter, since it is a fact based argument, that we were actually there, as opposed to someone who is generalizing, and not citing a specific example.

I'm not saying that doesn't happen, because of course it does...

But Lars wasn't hyped because he's a Sox prospect. He was hyped in the USA sets, and most people thought that even though the Sox drafted him, he wouldn't sign. So he had a decent amount of hype, which was then magnified by the Sox factor.

And count me in that - I only have one, but it's a Blue Ref 9.5 that I paid $300 on, which didn't seem bad at the time when raws were doing $280. Now? It seems REAL bad.

Well at least Ike Davis tore it up this year.

yea, that shocked the **** out of me! if you told me a year ago that after the 2009 Season,
Ike Davis would lead the ORGANIZATION in Home Runs, i would have bet serious money that
that would not be true......and it turned out to be true

His prices haven't shot up yet, but as far as I'm concerned my investment in him cancels out my investment in Lars. Fingers crossed.

i remember at the beginning of this year there were a few people collecting Ike Davis, and i'll be man
enough to admit that i thought anyone collecting him was foolish. i'd be glad to admit that i was wrong
if it comes to it. That being said, as he was the only Met auto put out in 2008, i did wind up picking
up a true gem ref auto

Yeah and I have the Ike Davis Sterling Red 1/1. Was dissapointed when I pulled it at first. I was like, he's okay but he's actually doing well.

My 2 cents for whats its worth in all of this.. I have one Lars auto refractor..probably paid to much.. I have also been scooping up Davis cards. I dont think one year will make Lars a bust or Davis a stud.
Lastly.. I cant stand the Mets or the Sox..but at least they arent the Cubs!!
Give Anderson a chance..has ton of potential to just say he is going to "suck"... looking forward to AFL and see how Davis does!!
