I saw they posted this video on Facebook earlier and it will be randomly inserted into Archives as Touched by Greatness. Kind of weird to me, not saying i wouldn't want to pull one but i don't think i would keep it.

I'm glad Cal is taking the time and seems to be appreciating the uh...uniqueness of this Topps insert.

Personally, I think it's one of the strangest chase cards of all time.

It is strange and not my type of thing but i bet he won't be doing that a billion times. Should be pretty limited.

At the very end he says he is doing 100 of them.

I think they are cool, but am not really sure what I would do with one (other than sell it, of course). IDK...maybe frame it... Anyway, I am glad to see new ideas in the products and I like this one MUCH more than autos from the karate kid (which are also in here as box loaders).

One more thing...

While I understand why, that is NOT what the early pic looked like:

Clearly no glove in the teaser mock up. Again, I understand why, but the "naked" hand definitely looks better.

I will say this, unless Cal Ripken died tragically and young, the abundance of his autograph will make Bob Feller's look like Addie Joss.

Not necessarily. If all he keeps signing is low numbered cards...there will always be a market out there for them. The Ripken collectors will keep scooping up their fill which only leaves so many cards left in circulation for guys who aren't diehard Ripken collectors to own. Say a card is numbered to /100. About half or more will probably go to Ripken collectors with the money to spend. You'll have a few people(like myself) who would keep them. The rest will be available. That's not exactly a lot of said card available for the masses. And even though there a gazillion different cards featuring his auto, this cycle repeats for every one of them. There is no short supply for his, Griffey's, Jeter's, or A-Rod's auto. But there will always be this cycle. The only time it hurts is on the lesser type players. People come and go as far as Player collecting those types of players on a large scale. Plus, some of these newer cards of newer guys are numbered to /999, sometimes even higher. How many Ripken, Jeter, Griffey, or A-Rod autos fit this description? Not many.

I don't he's just talking about cards. I'm sure with his reference to Bob Feller he is implying that Ripken signs his name on any and everything these days, which is true, especially after he started Iron Clad Authentics years ago.

Kudos to Topps for trying something different. If these are popular, they may expand making these types of cards. If they aren't, then it's a one-off.

UFC cards just did something like this but it was the fighters fists... It was a HUGE hit (no pun intended) with there product but they were very very very tough to get, like one in multiple cases but I'm sure one of you knows more about this than I do

I like the idea, though I wish they limited the set to pitchers who threw no hitters or perfect games. I don't know why but I think that would work a bit better.
