Not a Yanks fan, but that was a good way to wrap up the draft with Zimmer and Torre.

Was it just me or did Torre seem pretty surprised Zim made it thru the announcement OK? :?

I think Joe was definitely there to hold him up just in case. Heck Pedro Martinez could have been there.

You guys' are surprised Purke dropped? I actually didn't even think there was a chance of him getting drafted today.

Agreed. HUGE RISK pick. Big time $$$, poor performance this year, and injury concerns. I would have been very surprised if he was picked today, unless it was by the Red Sox who have the cash and picks to burn.

The Riverlands.
I really think the Yankees took a nice pick with Bichette Jr. I like him a lot, but I think he will be trade bait. Boston is a HUGE winner in this draft so far with the Nationals right behind them.

I was hoping the Twins would've selected Daniel Norris or Matt Purke with one of their compensation picks but I knew I was dreaming.

I have to let the first day sink in, the Jays picked a few that I didn't even have on my radar. According to his tweets Beede is excited to be picked by the Jays. Beede sounds like he had a pre-draft deal with the Jays. With the picks that the Jays have they will have to shell out a few loonies and twoonies.

Add another Golden Spikes Nominee to that list....

xxxxxxx has enjoyed a tremendous junior campaign. In 13 appearances, he has posted an 8-2 record to go along with a miniscule 1.40 ERA. All 12 of his starts this season have lasted at least six innings and he has tossed two complete games. In a team-high 90 innings pitched, xxxxxxx has fanned 98 batters and is limiting opponents to just a .201 batting average against. His outstanding season was honored as he was selected first-team all-conference. Earlier this week, xxxxxxx was named one of 30 semifinalists for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award. xxxxxxx has been named a third-team All-American by Louisville Slugger.

If his arm hadn't blown up on sunday he had a shot at going day 1, but that pretty much killed his chances.

Purke is one of those guys who, when he is picked, people will rave about stealing him so late when realistically, it has a much, much better chance of being a waste.

That said, I always find it funny here when people say "Team XX had a great draft". Hell, I'm still not settled on my thoughts of the Jays' 2007 draft.

Every single pick has a higher percentage of being a bust than a success. You can gage what level of talent at the time the teams got with their picks as soon as it is over. Last years Red Sox draft was a lot of high talent guys over many picks, will they all pan out? You won't know for years, but at the time the level of talent was easy to say they got great guys at that moment.

Is it just me or are the Rays going against form this year with their picks? :?

and Bradley will be a hit with the fans in Boston. Should be fun and popular, which obviously is good for card prices.

i'm going to assume that with their budget and so many picks that they are trying to find guys that will sign for low amounts but still have decent ceilings. my two cents...

Holy Crap! Josh Bell to Pirates.

Callis doubts they'll be able to sign him.
