I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cleveland, and he was sitting at the restaurant. So, I ran upstairs to my room, grabbed a Baseball and a pen, and he signed it.
On the sweet spot he signed his name, and then below that on the Side Panel he wrote "Mr Cub H.O.F 77"

No scans, but I'm going to the nationals tomorrow, so I guess the mods will see it.

Thanks for reading.

How can I? Well, I guess I could start my own, but I don't think I can be in a conference. I DO Have a username, so I guess I could show it off.

Good stuff Josh. I hope you are having fun there! Nothing but more rain here in the North East man. Numerous thunderstorms and sure-fire headaches. Take care dude.

I could be totally off the wall here, but isn't there some blue-pen conspiracy for fraud that shies famous people away from
them? I have no proof, I just remember hearing something about that.

Either way, congrats!

I have never heard of that, but then again, I'm not a "grapher" or whatever they call themselves. But, black still looked nice.
Thanks for the comment!

I know some folks don't like to sign white 3x5s for identity security reasons, but many guys won't sign free autos with a blue pen because they are most desired in terms of resale. A black signature on a ball will not garner as much money if their free signature is later sold.

Oh well, it doesn't matter to me. I have no intentions of selling it. Thanks for the info!

I agree. The autograph is about the experience...and you had a heck of an experience I'd say. Great memory.

That's probably why. Black ball point ink on balls also tend to fade much, much faster than blue.

How should I store it/display it so that it won't fade? I have it in the plastic case it came in, but is there more I can do?

It won't necessarily fade but with black it's more likely. The best way to prevent it is to store it in a dark place, but then it's not on display. There's really nothing else you can do that I know of besides the obvious, like not displaying in a room with bright sunlight.

Great success though, it's always great to get a HOFer for free.

If you have a lot of balls to display, you may consider a case with museum grade UV glass. It's not cheap, but it's not too crazy either, less than double the cost of standard UV protectant glass.

I have a lot of hand screened lithos from the '60s and '70s. I've been slowly having the reframed as I can afford it. Those that aren't stay in the closet.
