Johan wins the cy young.

What bullpen? The Mets? Besides Putz and Rodriguez there isn't much(Feliciano?). Putz is an injury risk, who had a down year and Rodriguez blew 7 games last year. Oh and they have not proven a thing yet.

With that said, regretfully I would have to say Johan due to him just being better.

I had a tough time deciding because "Derek Jeter" was not an option, so after a few minutes of pondering I finally decided to choose Johan Santana.

Putz and K-Rod have not proven a thing yet? Look at their previous sucess. They have a proven track record of sucess. 7 blown saves by K Rod in how many chances?

I understand you are a Phillies fan, but give them some credit for improving their biggest weakness

The pen as a whole hasn't proven anything yet(as them working together).

I am a Phillies fan but I am not a big fan of closers getting big money on the free agent market. I can't think of one that has worked out(going to a new team). I also have to wonder why the Angels just let him walk when they have plenty of money even if they signed Texiera.

I think CC will have a lot of success with the Yankees, but Johan is just the best pitcher on the list.

My Answer was

1) Johan- Because of the additions of KRod and Putz, the bullpen now can breathe somewhat a sigh of relief. Adding the game's best closer last year, and a solid setup/closer type is what the Mets needed, and they got. Johan was dominating last season, however, you could tell at times he felt pressured to go farther than he should have in alot of games, With the additions, Johan should be able to pitch less innings, and still be as dominating, maybe more than ever, and there wont be as much pressure on him to carry the team through out the season. If the bullpen does not fail, and that is a huge IF, Johan can win 20+ this season. Do I see him winning a Cy, no, because if he can win 18 games, he will be dogged by the voters who think "well look at his bullpen help, he didnt need to go more than 6 or 7 most of the time". 250k and 18 wins with a 2.89 era sounds about right so Johan.

2) CC- CC can now also breathe some relief because he is being added to a solid rotation already, unlike previous teams he has pitched on. With ****, Burnett, possibly Pettitte, Hughes, Joba, and others who can all start, CC will not need to worry as much about throwing too many innings--something he has done in the past and can set his sights on being in the playoffs and pitching with precision and dominance, rather than power and endurance. CC could easily win 16-20 games this season. I could see him winning 17, 215k and a 2.45 era for the Yankees

3) Zito- Zito needs to recover and get used to West Coast teams, something he had a problem with last year. Barry still is a great pitcher, but, if the Giants are thinking correctly, making him a bullpen pitcher may be the right thing to do. His mechanics might be a problem, as he is getting older, and his unique windup uses a good amount of energy. Barry is usually good for 3-4 innings lately, but after that he seems to falter. Adding him as their closer or go to guy could be something he needs to revive himself from last season, and if he can do that good enough, move him back to the rotation and let Barry be the pitcher we know he can be. Projecting his stats is tough, because its hard to tell where he will be (pen or rotation) but if he stays in the starting, I can see a 12-9 record with a 3.25 era and a solid season behind Lincy

Why is Zito even an option first of all, and second of all how does he have 5 votes???

And oh yeah, Johan get the nod as he should've won the Cy Young last year if not for the putrid 'pen.

Because he was given the biggest contract ever for a pitcher until Johan and CC got their deals

As stated before, with an improved bullpen Johan should be a heavy favorite for another Cy Young. :)
