Any team would trade a first round prospect and a pick for a Cup win. Not that Kaberle was the clincher that got them there, I think they would have achieved the same result with any other d-man instead in hindsight. But since they won it is a moot point and they can move forward. They saw enough to know he is not a piece they are missing. Corvo is a capable replacement for less money.

the Carolina Hurricanes have signed D Tomas Kaberle to a 3 year contract.

And in turn, traded Joe Corvo to Boston for a 4th rounder. I'm okay with this as Kaberle didn't impress me (and I doubt many other Boston fans) in his short time in Boston. I'll gladly take Corvo at about half the cap hit of Kaberle.

I 99% agree with you - it just seems like the Bruins gave up too much for just renting him. Of course:

- I don't really care to see him back, either
- They won the Cup. That's all that really matters.

I do agree a lot was given up for a rental, but I think we've come to expect that in most sports ... and the way I look at it, they won the cup, regardless of how productive Kaberle was.

I think Kaberle would have come back if he was going to be a Top 2 D-man, but in reality, he's a PP guy and maybe...MAYBE the #4 D-man, if not #5 (Boychuk and Ference above him). Too much money to spend for that type of player.

At the end of the day, I'll take The Cup over all of it!!

Man I hope Big Mac gets in some games. The east could be fun with him. He is no doubt the heavyweight champ going into the season. He does need to force issue more and enforce. But Shelley, Thornton, Orr will be on notice. You think Gillies has to be top priority when play Islanders.

I'm guessing the Pens didn't offer Godard a contract he was happy with because a few hours after he signed with Dallas the Pens had signed MacIntyre.

God will be missed in the lineup and in the community but I am excited to have MacIntyre on the Pens and look forward to see him get in some games and go against some of the heavyweights in the Eastern Conference.

Another trade today. Sharks send Dany Heatley to the Wild for Martin Havlat.

This would have been a blockbuster a few years ago. Still a pretty big deal.

Thanks for this thread btw OP. I'm just getting around to catching up on the NHL offseason.

I'm a little late on this but the New Jersey Devils have signed F Zach Parise to a 1 year contract worth
$6 million.

there is no doubt Parise will be the subject of trade rumors all season.

Nashville Predators D Shea Weber was awarded a 1 year $7.5 million contract through an NHL arbitrator. Weber was asking for $8.5 million and the Predators offered $4.75. the ruling was the largest in NHL History.

Weber will become a Restricted Free Agent after the 2011-12 season.

- the Pittsburgh Penguins have signed F Richard Park to a 1 year contract. the contract is a two way deal worth $550,000. the 35 year old Park will attend the Penguins training camp in hopes of making the NHL roster but can be sent to play in WBS.

I am happy with this signing. Park is an above average Center as far as taking faceoffs is concerned and is a solid penalty killer.
