Cardinals draft has me perplexed. Thank God Taveras is putting up numbers tonight to take my mind off it. 5-5, HR and a double.
This draft is a total headscratcher...not sure the "Moneyball" new scouting director knows what the hell he is doing???

Now officially collecting Stryker Trahan. He has been playing ball around the area - most recently in an All-Star game here in Alexandria. His family posted a reaction video to his drafting on Facebook. Dude was bawling. 26th overall to the D-Backs.

Top Drafts of Day One:

#1. Astros: Correa and McCullers. Only two picks but what a draft!!
#2. Oakland A's: Russell, Robertson, and Olson: Man, they just boosted their offense 1000%
#3. San Diego: Fried, Eflin, Jankowski, and Weickel: some awesome young pitching here
#4. Toronto: DJ Davis, Stroman, Smoral, Nay, and Gonzalez: I love the supplemental pickups of Smoral and Nay. Great value!!

Matty Olson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!

Paired with Vandy absolutely throwing away a 4 run lead to lose to NC State in an elimination game.

To be honest, I listed my Olson stuff before the draft. I knew it was coming. It just bums me out big time that a g I collected for a couple years is now simply a sell guy. First time I've PC'd a guy that makes me want to just sell off.
Now, if by some strange magic Tim Corbin can get him to see the benefits of playing for VU, I suppose I'll be able to buy back from some motivated Oakland sellers at least. Still. This one bums me out. Happy for the kid, as it really is a dream come true, and I would probably sign were I in his shoes, but it always stinks when you take a page out of the PC binder.

Oakland fans should be thrilled. Vandy doesn't recruit losers or kids without great character. He'll be a winner I'm sure, and make his way up to play with Sonny Gray in no time.

I was bummed the Padres didn't get a power bat but everyone seems to love the young pitching along with Jankowski.

Anybody else hit jackpot tonight on their listings? I did MUCH better than expected with Travieso going so high and Almora going to the Cubs. And then a guy who I didn't list anything for in Brian Johnson goes to the Red Sox. I have so much Brian Johnson I'm not even exactly sure what to do right now. I've done pretty well today/tonight, and I've got a lot more that hasn't been touched, but I'm OK with that.

Lot of (4) Appel Sterling Jerseys for $25 (today before the draft)
Gausman USA Box Triple Jersey auto for $20
Almora 2011 BC Xfractor auto for $25 (not paid yet)

Also got a bid on my best Marrero (which I started high), we'll see how that goes.

Agreed, the guys on the radio didn't know what they were talking about, were asking for bats as well. And I was waiting for one too but there wasn't many worth taking at that pick, and at first didn't like the draft. But just got done reading some recaps and watching some videos and people are raving about the draft. Byrnes the GM, Padres Prospects website guy and tons of others.

Good for the hometown Stros to make the most of 2 picks. They need a little bit of everything to re stock the minors and eventually help the team, so hopefully Correa and McCullers pan out well.

One bad season won't hurt Marrero. He raked in the Cape last year and can field. Vinicio is a long ways away, buddy.

He didn't really rake on Cape. He hit .326 in 12 games. He only had 3 XBH's out of his 15 hits in 2011. In 2010 he hit .310 with only 5 XBH out of his 30 hits. He was a very good fielder, but he by no means raked. He had a ton of hype, but at the plate never really delivered.

My initial thoughts after Day 1.

Cubs Day 1 draft was kind of what I expected. Wish they would have went with another bat in the Supplemental.

Really liked what Texas did with their first two picks. Not sure they could have done much better than they did with Brinson and Gallo.

Houston obviously did well with their first two picks as well. The question is whether or not they can get both picks signed.

Jays also had a realy good draft Day 1. I think Stroman is going to be really good for them.

48 Pick for the Sox could be a good one!
Keon Barnum.
Big Strong kid. Drafted from King HS, Tampa.

Batted .417, 5 HR, 15 RBI in 26 games.

My dad works for the school district and has met him. Say he has a real good head on his shoulders.
