Re: Official Pirates Thread - Loss to Manatee CC

The Pirates lost to Manatee Community College today in the annual spring exhibition game. I honestly have no idea what to day...for years the MCC game has been a bit of a joke, allowing the Buccos to beat up on a team for at least a day. There were no major leaguers for the Pirates, but the lineup included the majority of the Pirates top prospects, including McCutchen, Tabata, Walker, and Steve Pearce.

Re: Official Pirates Thread - Loss to Manatee CC

Manatee used a different pitcher every inning. the hitters never got a chance to see the same pitcher twice. yes this is bad but at least they kept it close  .

on a happy note the opening day players beat the Reds 6-5 :D .

Ahh, the split squad team that lost to Manatee featured a lot of youngsters.

Anybody see that Negrych had a couple of hits with the big club a couple days back? I have hopes for him!

Re: Official Pirates Thread - Loss to Manatee CC

Obviously the game is meaningless, and the roster was a mix of AA and AAA players...none the I am a bit saddened by the loss of the opportunity to continue making Manatee CC jokes.

On slightly more meaningful note, how scared do the starting pitchers have to be at a bullpen of Yates, Veal, Hansen, and possibly Meek. While thing all 4 have decent potential, there may not be many pitches making it over the plate in the middle innings.

Hopefully Duke can get things together and give us a solid 3 starter. I find it hard to believe this team will be able to content until the pitching quality and depth improves significantly.

By the way, Dave, I got a fanpack in the mail today with a Wilson postcard. Thanks again for the email address :D

Zach should be the #2 starter on the Pirates.

If JR continues to use Yates in a set-up role, it could make the 7th-8th innings very rough, especially when/if Grabow is dealt.
