yes it was James. he looked just as good as he has all Spring. I think he is going to have a strong season.

I was going to go to the game tonight too, its only a 3 hour drive. Military gets in for free too in St. Louis... If it were only on the weekend... :(

they only go to St Louis for 2 more games this season on May 6th and 7th but those are a Wednesday and Thursday. that's great that Military personnel get in for free.

If JR continues to use Yates in a set-up role, it could make the 7th-8th innings very rough, especially when/if Grabow is dealt.

I agree Mark. they need to try Burnett in the set-up role. Yates is very shaky and makes me very nervous as does most of the pen.

Unless we can consistently get 7+ innings out of our starters, I don't have much faith in the pen holding down leads. Hansen, Veal, and Chavez/Meek are all live arms with major flaws. It won't help that JR tends to leave guys in to pitch through rough spots. Without Grabow, this pen could get very messy.

since i follow the local minor league team's players i found an odd stat . 28 former players are on 15 teams other than pirates . 10 are on pitts roster.
these young players can start on other teams but not pirates? i just can't understand picked up F/A paying higher $$ for a year contract .

That's an interesting stat, though not all that surprising. Obviously some will leave via free agency or productive trades, but there have been far too many stupid moves over the last 7 or 8 years. I've lost count of how many players have either been left unprotected or throw-in in trades that have developed into solid major leaguers. Just off the top of my head...Keppinger, Craig Stansberry, Lillibridge, Ollie Perez, Chris Young, Chris Shelton.

Paul has looked great this year. I've been surprised by how well Nyjer has played as well.

Can't wait for the home stand next week. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the home opener this year, but I'm still hoping to catch a few games.

Doumit just hit a grand slam to make it 9-1 in the 9th :D

I think the pen can hold this lead.

the game ended 10-2. McLouth and Doumit both had a very good game and Maholm pitched great for the second consecutive game.

Snell vs Harang today at 1:10. hopefully Snell can pitch better than he did in his last start.

My Maholm collection isn't all that large, but I may add more in the future. He was by far one of the nicer players I've met at Piratefest over the years.

I really like that quad with Capps, Gorz and Snell. Does Snell not sign IP? Or have you just not seen him yet?

All the signatures were obtained at Piratefest over the winter. Snell wasn't in attendance this year, but I'm hoping he will be at some point in the future. He's almost automatic TTM, but I'm trying to avoid sending the card out since it's so close to being complete.

Reds 2-0 in the 7th. Harang is 2 hitting the Bucs.

they should have saved some of the offense from yesterday's game for today. Snell hasn't looked to bad today.

EDIT: Reds win 2-0. Harang and Snell both pitched very well.

the Pirates turned their first triple play since 1993 in 8th inning yesterday. with the runners on 1st and 2nd running on contact Edwin Encarnacion hit a soft line drive to Jack Wilson at shortstop and he threw to Freddy Sanchez at second who then threw to Adam LaRoche at first. Wilson could have possibly had an unassisted triple play but threw it to Sanchez instead.
