the Pirates have offered contract extensions to both Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson. they have both been rumored to be on the trading block several times in the last few years and both have expressed interest in remaining with the Pirates. according to the Post Gazette the deals must be made within 10 days so that if deals are not reached they can field offers from other teams for one or both players.

they both seem to be excited about the offer to continue to play for the Bucs and remain teammates for years to come. Wilson has said he is willing to take a pay cut in his extension and both players will probably seek no trade clauses. I would love for both of them to sign but 10 days is a very short period of time to come to terms on both contract length and financial terms.

with all the bad press the Pirates have received recently from trading away fan favorites this will go along way to making fans happy but if it falls apart it will just add to the fan backlash.

it drizzled for about 15 minutes and now it is just cloudy. I think they will definitely play.

the Pirates have rescinded their contract extensions to both Wilson and Sanchez after both players rejected the offers and did not counter offer. the Pirates offered Wilson a 2 year $8 mil contract and Sanchez was offered $10 mil for 2 years. Wilson has a $8 mil option next season and Sanchez has a $10 mil option next season. I cannot understand why the Pirates would low ball them so much and only offer 2 year deals. I can only assume both players will be traded before the deadline next week.

I am very angered by what was obviously just a show by management to try and act like they were trying to keep both players. I am really fed up with both the ownership and Neal Huntington.

in other Pirates news Ian Snell has told the Pirates he wants to stay in AAA Indianapolis or be traded rather than rejoin the Pirates in the majors.

I think they really made Freddy a lowball offer. While I like the majority of the moves that have been made since Littlefield left, I must say that NH has failed miserably in terms of attempting to keep the few remaining Pirate fans engaged and in dealing with players currently on the roster. I can't say I can recall any GM having this much back and forth name calling with a player. On a number of occasions Neil has made statements undercutting or pointing out the flaws in his players. Obviously these conversations frequently take place in private, but I fail to see the benefit in airing them in a public manner. It's becoming very hard to care about this team...

Jack and Freddy are both out of the lineup tonight, with Dejan reporting that something is in the works. I think I can hear the pitchforks being readied...

At least you guys aren't Padres fans and you still have the best football team in the NFL and the Penguins!

Guess it's worth bumping this thread. I guess I'm in the same boat as Barry and Dave now, with my favorite player being shipped out of town. Semi-ironically, I had been scanning some recent pickups, including the new centerpiece of my collection, to post on here later today when I read about the trade. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to care about this organization...

Sorry for Jack Wilson getting shipped out bro. I do think Clement will help out as he has a pretty good bat.

It does sound like early reviews of the trade are very positive. It's tough to see a guy you've watched play on a daily basis for the past 9 years go though. Doesn't help that Snell was my second favorite player on the current roster. Not to mention how all these roster moves are making it tough to keep up with my Pirates autograph project

It's being reported that the Giants and Pirates have a deal in place pending on how Sanchez's knee checks out. The Giants will be giving up John Bowker, Kevin Frandsen, and Jesus Guzman.

The PG is reporting there was a framework in place Monday, but both parties backed off due to concerns over Sanchez's knee. If this is the deal, I would much rather hold on to Freddy. I assume Frandsen and Guzman would become our DP combo, but neither seems very impressive. I think we need to get at least one prospect out of their top 10-15 prospects to make the deal viable. Depth is nice, but it doesn't matter how much 'depth' you have if there is no talent in that depth.
