I was happy that I was going to a Pirates/Phillies game in August. Now I'm not because there's no Pirates I want to see anymore :( I guess I'll have to settle for only McCutchen.
We have Milledge now. He is a good player to go see. Same with Garret Jones doumit and the pitching.

Milledge still has a long way to go to live up to his 'potential.' I'm thrilled to see him on the roster, but there have been far too many players that couldn't connect the gap between potential and results over the past 17 years.

As for Jones...I'm kind of shocked by the people (granted, mostly casual fans) that think he might be some kind of long term solution at 1B. He had a very hot first month in the bigs, but once he cools off, I can't see him being a viable big league starter.

I'm happy Neil will get his first taste of the bigs, even if he may not see much playing time.

Honestly, at this point I'm looking ahead to Piratefest. I've just about lost interest in the team over the past month or so.

Garret Jones hit the 10,000th home run in Pirates history today in the Bucs 5-3 lose to the Reds.

Fred Carroll hit the first Pirates homer on May 2, 1887.

The Pirates are the 14th of 16 pre-expansion teams to reach the 10,000 homer mark.

For better or worse, I still have tickets to a bunch of games over the next month, so hopefully I can regain my interest. Probably didn't help that I haven't had cable over much of the last month while I was in the process of moving.

Reaching a level of futility that no Pirate fan could have fathomed when Sid Bream crossed home plate, the Pirates are now one loss away from setting the record for most consecutive losing seasons.

who would have thought Bonds not being able to throw Bream out would lead to this.

hopefully Maholm can pull off a win today and the best way to do that is to not pitch to Pujols especially with first base open.

From a strategic perspective, I have a hard time arguing against pitching around or walking Pujols in any key situations.

As a fan of the game, I was in awe of his performance the past two games. Seeing him just lift the ball over the fence in right with a flick of the wrist Friday night ranks in the top 5 of my most memorable moments at PNC Park, from the games I've been at.

the home run on Friday was a thing of beauty. as for last night I just don't understand why Russell would have Capps pitch to him.

Re: Official Pirates Thread-Clinch 17th losing season

Aaaaaand there is it.

The Pirates now hold the record for most consecutive losing seasons. I have a few interesting tidbits that I'll probably post later today that some of you may enjoy.

That was tough to watch. From where I was sitting, it looked like a few of those hits could have been fielded if someone with more range than Vazquez was out there, or dare I say Jack Wilson at short.

Re: Official Pirates Thread-Clinch 17th losing season

Jason Bay talks about Pirates losing 17 straight seasons (good read)...

projo.com

interesting fact...

Tim Wakefield is the only active player in the majors from the Pirates last winning season in 1992.
