Just thought I start an Official thread for the Tournament since Championship Week is 1/2 way done...

Seton Hall trying to play its way in, still need some wins IMO.

Harvard in for First time since '47 and personally, I hope Drexel makes it in despite losing Conf. Final to VCU...

Right now, I've got a Heels-Buckeyes Men's Final BTW.

Murray St out in first round, Syracuse and Indiana miss Sweet 16, Iowa State makes Elite 8, Ohio State faces Michigan State in final and beats them for third time in a row, final Big10 season game, Big10 tournament, and March Madness. Northwestern and VCU make Sweet 16.

Now I'll be upfront with this 'cuz I'm a Villanova and Pitino fan,

But sometimes Big East basketball is almost un-watchable... ::facepalm::

And man, does the Pac-12 suck again. :o

Looks like Colorado will be the lowest seed BCS conference Champion since they expanded the field in '85...

and Probably the ONLY Pac12 team IN. :o

Woulda liked to see Drexel in, but no arguments w/ selection Committee.

A coupla mis-seeds IMO, but then you can take those teams out further anyway...

I've been following this since '84 and can't remember any Tourney being more Wide-Open at all.

You can make an argument, that if Kentucky loses, ANY team seeded #12 or better on the Left side could make the Finals.

NOW there's an UPSET...

First time since '01, a #15 wins!

And alot of people were ticked Mizzou was a #2 seed and a low one at that.

Syracuse the Next high seed out? Both they and FSU barely escaped the First Round...

And Duke makes two.
Hold on while I shed a tear.
Wait.
No, keep waiting.
It's coming.
Really.

Maybe not.

I wonder if Coach K will retire or be fired. Pretty pathetic that Duke can't make it to the third round, especially as a #2 seed.

I would have to say so far, 2012 is the TRUE march madness! Almost history yesterday with Syracuse and then two of the six #15 def #2 upsets in NCAA tournament history occurring today on the same day!

You're kidding right? Even if he didn't even make the Tourney for the next 5 years, he'd still be the Coach.

Heck, he's the USA Olympic coach...

Every coupla years Duke is down, becomes too reliant on the Three and is too soft inside and loses early, just not usually this early. But IF their freshmen stay and they recruit like always, they'll be fine.

I'd be more worried about Mizzou getting back to a #2 seed soon...

Coach K has "tenure" as a coach. Duke gave it to him about 6 or 7 years ago.

Not kidding. I don't buy Duke fans think that anything but a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 appearance is acceptable. I don't know if this is just a bad season or if Coach K is getting professional alzheimers (declining coaching or recruiting skills).

I'm still in shock my team has done better than Duke in the tournament (testament to Coach K for high expectations and success) and my team has a chance later tonight to make the Sweet 16 for the first time in team history.

You do realize that only one team wins a year right? The fact that Duke has 4 National Championships in the past 25 years is absolutely amazing. Coach K is the best college basketball coach of all time not named John Wooden.

Agreed. It's totally ridiculous to think he should be fired. I'm no Duke fan, but there is no way the fire him ever. They didn't really have a good team this season anyway. Getting a 2 seed was overachieving in some ways for what they had. Even great programs miss the tourney here and there. They never do at Duke.

What have you done for me lately, not what have you done for me in the past.

I know only one team a year wins and I never said Duke should win it every year. I (and probably even Duke fans) think their tradition under Coach K should expect at least a sweet 16 every year, a goal that is a miracle for my local team since they've never made it to a regional finals round until possibly tonight, but Duke has been there often enough that anything short of making it out of the first weekend is a failure. No excuse Duke can't make it there (and Coach K's reputation and track record should mean he probably can get about any great athlete to go to Duke).

From your way of thinking, Tony LaRussa should still be managing the Cardinals, John Wooden should have been coaching the Bruins until the day he died, Joe Paterno should have been coaching Penn State until the day he died, etc.

**** happens. LaRussa parted ways with the Cards, Wooden moved on for whatever reason that occurred before I was born or before I got into CBB, Paterno was fired from a job that he probably had tenure. If this year isn't an aberration, in the next few years Coach K should probably retire or Duke show him the door if Duke can't make it to a sweet 16 in the next year or two and get back to their tradition of excellence.

No but when the man is only two years removed from winning a National Championship and is considered one of the two greatest coaches of all time, I think it's okay that he lost in the first round. It's not like Duke has a track record of being upset.

Who cares whether he loses in the first round or the 3rd? The end result is the same - you didn't win the National Championship. He has done that more than anyone else in the 64+ team tournament era.

It would be the stupidest move in all of sports, EVER if they fired Coach K.

Those other examples are terrible, no offense. Wooden retired after winning his last of MULTIPLE championships. La Russa retired after his second championship in a pro sport in 6 years, and Jo Pa was forced out not because of anything related to his team's performance and would have retired at the end of last year anyway, as he was clearly close to death.

Coach K will NEVER be fired. Without him, there is no Duke Basketball. He would have to suffer through 10 straight years of losing seasons for the possibliity to be raise, and that isn't going to happen, as his history with College basketball is the greatest (legal) modern recruiting tool in all of college sports.

Bob Knight was fired for something that was not related to basketball. The university hadn't cared about his performance for years. In his final 7 years at IU, he finished above 3rd in the Big 10 ONCE, and the Sweet 16 ONCE, including 4 1st Round exits. There was NEVER talk about him being on the "hot seat".

Now, you think one or two bad exits for Coach K gets him in trouble? That's unrealistic to say the least.
