whats the rarity difference in the blacks?

Weren't supposed to be released and only a handful got out. Probably only 1 made of each player, but not necessarily 1 of each player was made. It's a skip-numbered set with only a handful actually confirmed. I can confirm that I have seen both Andruw's, 106 and 150.

This set was an unnanounced very scarce parallel version of the Pinnacle Certified base set, probably the result of a few test sheets being cut and inserted by mistake into packs. These cards give off a bright green reflection when placed in direct light, but are silver with black print when placed away from light. It is not known for sure if all 150 cards exist. No pricing is available due to the scarcity of the cards.

This is why I wanted to buy it, but again glad it is in Jay's collection.

The backs are exactly the same as the base card. The weird thing about the cards is I could only get it to scan blue/bluish-green. Obviously the same for George. In hand, it looks just like all the other mirrors from this set, except with the black sidebar. My gold and red scanned all rainbow colors, but I don't know why this won't. I'm guessing the Beckett writeup is from somebody that has only seen scans because they mention only the green refraction specifically.

I did know this card existed before; I had asked the seller to sell it to me a handful of times throughout the past 3-4 years, but he always politely declined and told me he wasn't ready to part with it.

Thanks for all the nice comments. This one I plan to have in my collection for a long time.

Edited to add picture from digital camera:

Quick question: Is there any difference between a 1998 UD 10th Anniversary Preview card and a 1998 UD 10th Anniversary Preview RETAIL card? According to my player checklist my guy has one of each with the same card #. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Thanks for the nice comments. I am really excited to add it to my collection :D I will be sending it back in to BGS eventually. It was graded an 8.5 before, but now that it's peeled I'm thinking it will gem.

Wow! You peeled a mirror black? I'd never have the balls! Great card but not so sure I'd have peeled it. It may eventually be released back into the hobby again and now its not necessarily complete. In any case...nice to see a PC guy snag that big of a whale!

One has "Preview Edition" stamped on the front. I believe the retail is the one without, but I'm not 100%.

I couldn't wait to peel that ugly thing off! It's so distracting. I'ma peel till I keel! It's actually quite liberating; you should try it :)

With the grade it had I would have peeled it too.

It's actually the other way around. Retail has the "Preview Edition" stamping on it, hobby does not. Retail is slightly scarcer than hobby, but prices are the same. Confirmed in SCD.

My opinion is quite opposite. I can't stand these without the peel. They just don't look right and the design is surprisingly bland w/o the peel. It was bad enough peeling a base card but I wanted to know how it felt.

I agree. (Not that there is anything wrong with peeling!!)
To me, taking the peel off of a card is like opening a starting line-up figure out of it's package. Yes, you still have it, but it's not in it's original state!
