Maybe the 1992 Donruss super DK's? Though as I recall...distribution methods on these is sketchy at best right? Some have them as being like a promo type item with only 25 copies in existence and some said they were available at retail outlets as box toppers? Also...anything with Griffey, Jeter, Ripken, or Nomo's face on it from the 1990's that is numbered between /1 and /25 has a chance. I know I'll have to cough up easily $500 for a Bagwell red crusade. I can't imagine collecting Griffey or Ripken and having that card to track down. Didn't a griffey from one of the late 90's sets get an offer of $16,000 and the owner still wouldn't budge?

That would be the 1997 Flair Showcase Masterpiece collection. The seller lived in Alaska and as I recall, wouldn't sell the card because it would only go up in value and he would use the money for college.

Some guy in California attempted to corner the market on '97 Flair Showcase Griffey Masterpieces. He bought two of the three ones-of-one for just under $30,000 and offered a kid in Alaska $25,000 for the third.

Sometime around 2001-02 this particular dealer gave up and sold the two Griffey's on eBay. IIRC, they sold for $6800 and $5500 each.

Only thing is...we are comparing 1/1 to a card numbered to /50. And aren't the Flair Showcase cards the first product to feature a 1/1 card subset in them? Is there a comparative Jordan card from that year we can match it up to?

Flair had the 1/1 Masterpiece and Pinnacle had printing plates that same year.

Jordan's PMG Green outsells ANY baseball insert/promo/prototype by 2x easily. Last one I saw sell went over $12k.

Someone cut down some uncut sheets and left the border scraps on them. That's all.

Yes although it is a parallel set. You could compare it to the 1997/98 Flair Showcase Masterpiece Michael Jordan #23.

Not more than any insert. If we are talking 90's...maybe. I couldn't say. I haven't been in long enough to know that. But if we are talking just plain inserts from any year...hell...the Strasburg went for more than that. But lets just suffice it to say that anything with Jordan on it will always command a super high price. And that is always how it has been and will be.

If they were blank backs though?

Printing is outsourced and printers regularly print up blank/wrong backs in hopes of creating something worth a premium. These sheets are sometimes cut down like a normal sheet or sometimes they just leave the whole border scrap on the card (which makes cutting the sheet much easier because one cut to each border releases the card rather than cutting the card to the standard card size which would require additional cuts.

If you want to go by peak sales, the Jordan PMG green still trumps the Stras super. They've sold in excess is $30k. I'd be willing to bet that if you sold both cards today, the Jordan would sell for more as well.
