Here's what I got today. I'm a little disappointed in the condition of the standup, but at least I got one. I hope to get all the Standups. Its been hard tracking them down for cheap. Pinnacle Inside had some clever inserts. And the Pacific Cards - I wasnt expecting Card Show stamped pieces. They were part of a 9 card lot and I was goin after 2 of the cards. I love getting little bonuses I wasnt expecting!

Last summer I was at a show (which was terrible otherwise) and a dealer had 1998 Pinnacle Inside cans for $1 each. I picked up 6 of them; nothing great but a neat open anyways. No Bagwell Stand-Ups, unfortunately. If you think the regular Stand-Ups are tough, try finding the Stand-Up Samples. I've only seen 3 in person my whole collecting life, and I grabbed all 3. Two were the AB and CD of the Dodgers cards with Paul Konerko, got them both for 10¢ at a shop that didn't know what he had. The other one was the catchers quad, Piazza/Charles Johnson/Ivan Rodriguez/Javy Lopez, which I've been unsuccessful in selling on COMC despite it being a tough card. They book for stupid money; the Piazza quad books for $40, one with Ripken books for $50 (it has Scott Rolen on it, so it's on my wantlist). I suspect many player collectors don't know these exist.

Knowing means almost nothing if you can't find em. I have never been able to find a Bagwell for purchase.

I've bought and sold the Stand Up Guys Samples for a few years now and I'm guessing I've never seen about 3/4th's of the set. It's a fairly large insert set. Just finding any example (both pieces) is a tough task.

I See em on ebay. this guys got 16 of em. Big bucks. I dont understand why. Its gotta be the most expensive Sample cards I have ever seen of Bagwell. Its probably the other guys on the cards that make it that high.

Thats crazy money for those. If I had that kind of money (and thats a big if), I'd much rather spend it on a SP buyback auto, or a buttload of dollar cards I still need.

Now if I can sell off my extra cards, I may be able to do this... All in due time i suppose.

This is the guy who I bought my Belle Samples from. I've never ever seen the Belle anywhere else and this guys had them for sale for years. Plus he has SO many lol.

Just to note, he won't budge on price what so ever. At $20 a card, I just said screw it. Part of me thinks maybe he has them all? He is good a communicating and told me he got them all when he was a vender or something.

My hands were shaking when I found both pieces of the Konerko/Cruz Jr/Grieve/Tatis Stand-Ups Sample at a shop for a dime. I'd picked up the Piazza on at the same shop, and had no idea they were tough to get until I brought it home and did some research. Those are a huge piece of my Konerko collection, unless a Jose Cruz Jr or a Ben Grieve collector wants to offer me a ton of money for them! :D

I just sold the Piazza/Lopez/IRod/Johnson Sample on COMC for $5. I was getting lowball offers for months on it, and after 6 months of watching it sit there I decided to let it go. Used the $5 to pick up $60+ BV in cards I needed so it was a good deal for me.

Now seriously, why the heck did Pinnacle need to make so many damn samples? I mean, just 2 cards would have been sufficient to show what the heck it would look like once its printed... Damn Pinnacle.

I wonder if they are faked?

Have a question on this 99 Topps "promo" Thome:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Anyone know anything about this? Haven't seen one before, curious what a decent buy point would be...

Thanks as always.

It's not a "promo" card it's the MVP Promotion card. I don't recall the details of the contest, but if your player (wins MVP?) you won a prize for having his MVP Promotion card. Supposedly there are 100 of each player. That said, I haven't seen either of the Rivera's in six years.
