The 1999 & the 2000 MVP set had an actual card redemption if your player was voted as an MVP during one of the weeks during the season..Here is what the 99 exchange looked like.. Good luck finding one of these...........

Then why does Beckett list the redemption as being worth 1/6 of the actual MVP card?

Astroburn- That is the Brass Proof /500.

RGF- Cuz Beckett is dumb about those types of things.

I see why now. It's in the text of that card back. Every weekly winner can be redeemed for a SET of the weekly winners. According to Beckett, there are 25 cards in the winners set.

So there were 2500 total cards that could have been redeemed, but, as always, the question is how many of them were?

Beckett is wrong a lot and this is one of those times. Both the redemptions and the redeemed winner sets are a pain in the butt to find. Clark made it into one of the winner sets and I can tell from searching Clark regularly, they rarely show up for sale. I sold an extra of just the Clark from the winner set for over $50, but I paid over $100 for my last redemption I needed (the year he won). So, Beckett is probably off on both prices, but it's definitely one you DON'T want on your need list.

Still looking for the 1999 Pedro Martinez #95 and all the 1999/2000 Piazza redemption and exchange cards, if anyone has them lying around :)

If I'm correct, the 1999 Series 2 don't have the foil MVP Promotion stamp?

Guys - what is your opinion of all those "proofs" leximo has up on ebay?

I bought a bunch of these from him years ago and they seem legit. The ones I have are printed on the same kind of stock and have the same die cut pattern as the real card. The only thing I find odd is that he has so many brands (pacific, skybox, topps, fleer, upper deck).

I was just going to ask the same thing. Seems to have a lot of them and not all from one company, which I'm not exactly sure about but far from the expert.

So I'm sure it's been discussed over and over again but what is the story behind the guys at Burbank Sportscards? It's clear they have a great deal of cards and seem to have them priced extremely high but how did they come across such a large number of cards and how are they pricing them? The reason for my post is I've stayed away from them for a long time but at a quick look, they have probably 50+ Belle's I need which is amazing considering I have 80% outstanding.

They purchase large collections and they have millions of cards. They anticipate collectors like you; collectors who want these rare cards so badly, so they price cards at ridiculously high prices and won't budge on price.

Yeah Burbank is tough. I have bitten the bullet a few times a bought Puckett cards I needed from them. I actually got them at a reasonable price though because a lot of his stuff sells at or above book value. Most of the stuff I have bought from Burbank has been just below book value so I am ok with it.

I have come around a bit on Burbank, but then again the guys I collect aren't bank breakers.

I bought this card from them (just posted a few pages back):

GriffeyGJAP.jpg

They had it wayyy over book at like $50. I emailed them and asked why this card is a greater percentage over book than their other Griffeys. He gave me a weak line, but then he did quote me a $40ish price. When they pulled the card they noticed some foil damage. He told me right away, quoted me $28, and provided a good scan.

I also added that Buhner PMG to my order and it ended up being Super Sweet. A bargain in my eyes at $11 even with Burbank pricing.

The only negative was the Jake Reed Select Certified Mirror Gold I ordered was badly miscut and had an awful print line. But overall the experience was a good one. I'm glad they exist or else I might never have acquired some of the cool cards I've picked up from them.

Some great info and points about Burbank, thanks guys. I've made some purchases from them but mostly on their cards under $5. As most, I'm to the point in my player collection where most cards I need are tough to find and aren't cheap. I was shocked to notice Burbank had SO many that I'm in search of. I've emailed the guy over there and he is pretty good at communicated and it seems he can skim like 10% off any price if you ask, which is good to know.
