My Pinnacle Inside Stand Up Guys Sample arrived today from COMC:

ripkenJonesRolenCaminitiPinnacleInsideStandUpGuysSample.jpg

This one was listed for less than a day before I saw it. The one still up on COMC has a weak corner in the close up scan, but this one is in pretty good condition. He took my first offer of half off, so it's better than paying a bloated price from ebay. After seeing others talk about these, I said I needed one. Now I do.

Ok, I have owned 3 of these cards. All of them with the refractor on Biggios side only. Anyone ever seen it with Refractor on Bagwell's side? Or both sides? or niether side? Do the others exist? Discuss... :P

There is 3 dual refractors (ref on both sides) available on the beckett.com marketplace right now ranging from 6 to 8 bucks.

long time reader of this thread, first time question poster :) I collect an obscure player and the opportunity to acquire a 1999 EX Essential Credentials has arisen. I know that BV is silly on these older cards, but I was wondering what ppl thought the going rate could be?

Sets like that often draw higher than book value pricing for semi-stars and above; obtaining a less-collected player, while it may not draw much competition, is essentially left to the hand of the seller...it's rare, there is no stockpile on the market...where else will you go, right?

I'd say that any price beneath "book value" is probably an acceptable price; but it's really about how willing you are the spend, how patient you are to wait, and how generous the seller is feeling.

Without knowing the player or the print run, it is hard to say. Being that you seem to know a book value, I assume it is numbered out of 25 or higher. So I agree with Bunch O Bull, anything under book value should be fair. Just depends on how much you are willing to pay. Btw, have you checked the Beckett Marketplace? They have 146 Essential Credentials Future/Now cards listed.

Was looking for any insight on the '97 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals set... Looks like the card is made of 1 gram of fine gold and it is serial #/100... Are these extremely hard to come by? What have some play collectors paid for their guys or are a lot of you guys sitll looking for your guy? I've seen a few Belle's spike and never can seem to figure out a good price point or where a sellers mind is

I couldn't find the original thread but we previously discussed the 1997 SPx cards and the difference between each, i.e. base card, silver, steel, bronze, etc. I had been looking for the bronze color base card ever since our post and there a million for under $1 on various sites, so I made the purchase but again ended up with a double again.

Looks like not all players have the same look/color? For example look at Cal Ripken on COMC, each of his are there and the base seems to be a bronze color but Belle doesn't seem to follow trend... I went around and around with the seller and then he sent me this picture, I'm assuming he is right? Can any of you confirm this? I mean it is clear there are 3 different cards here.

[quote="mansgameI should know the answer to this but these had cards inside, so essentially a bunch of these could of been opened and tossed after right? I haven't seen the Albert Belle.

Anyone who ripped a Gold Impulse open and threw it away should get their face punched off.

I'd bet that many of them are still in packs, I know I refused to buy that stuff when it came out because I hated (and still do, to some degree) jumbo cards. Pretty sure I've seen a few online dealers with Zenith boxes for sale, fairly cheap too.

LOL!

Considering the 5x7 golds were #/100 (via beckett) they seem pretty rare. Does anyone have a guess what the chances were to find one in a box? I think there were 3 of the 5x7s in each hobby box, so it would have to be per so many boxes that you come across a gold.

And in regards to the above post, there does seem to be a bunch of this product unopened and out there. A quick google search shows boxes of this stuff for $25-$40 a box. Not sure if that is a good buy or not but still interesting.[/quote]

there is a box at the show. i might pick it up today if he still has it . he wants 25. btw, this show SUCKS! vintage vintage vintage vintage. i have only seen 2- 98 crusade's in a showcase. nothing and i am talking nothing that is serial numbered 100 or below in any showcase of 90's inserts. if vintage is soooooooooooo rare then why do i see 1000's 1000's of this stuff here. vintage collectors can have it! ohhh sorry, but when are collectors besides the ones that post on this thread going to wake up. i guess in a way i am glad they collect VINTAGE. i will post scans of what i have bought when i get home. some nice graded inserts of Juan. thats about all i have found in the 90's of him in one day. going back today to search the dollar boxes.

I need the Matt Williams from that set and I don't even bother putting it on my wantlist. The odds of me finding one are infintessimal, and the odds of me finding one I can afford are even lower.

We don't need more people collecting awesome 90's inserts! It's already hard enough competing with the collectors here, imagine triple that amount all searching for the same rare cards?

Well, I dont have all the info on SPX, but I do have these. If different players got different cards and were'nt all in the base and subsets the same, how would you know what to search for?

I assumed this was the base
Upper%20Deck%20SPX%2027.jpg

Followed by the Bronze
Upper%20Deck%20SPX%2027%20Bronze.jpg

And the Silver
Upper%20Deck%20SPX%2027%20Silver.jpg

And the Gold
Upper%20Deck%20SPX%2027%20Gold.jpg

So now there's a "steel" i need to keep an eye out for? With the pic background not fuzzy like the others? Geez...

Is it just me or does Beckett have the 1997 Score Reserve Collection pricing ass backwards? For example, they are saying that the Hobby Reserve (white border w/ gold stamp) Fred McGriff Goin Yard is worth $5, but that the Reserve Collection (etched foil 1:11 packs parallel) is only worth $2.50?

I hated this set when it came out for that very reason. Now I'm realizing that all the Silvers I thought I had are actually Steels. Looks like I'm digging through my dupes at some point to make sure I didn't toss anything I end up needing.
