So now there's a "steel" i need to keep an eye out for? With the pic background not fuzzy like the others? Geez...

I hated this set when it came out for that very reason. Now I'm realizing that all the Silvers I thought I had are actually Steels. Looks like I'm digging through my dupes at some point to make sure I didn't toss anything I end up needing.

Ha now you can see my extreme  about this set! For the longest time I thought I had the silver and steel and have been looking for the base... now I noticed I need the silver lol. I have probably half dozen of the base and steel now, with 0 silver's (now one incoming) but I've been so pissed about this set. I'm going to be happy to get my silver and be DONE with the 1997 SPx series!

what was the difference between the normal winners card and the certified winners? I had a good handful of the regular winners from when i was a kid never seen one like that

Regular winners were inserted in to packs. Certified winners were the ones you got back from Topps after redeeming.

Therefore, there are a finite number of Certified vs an infinite number of regular. That explains the price of the certified.

So a certified ABCD winner is worth a lot more than a certified A winner because the ABCDs were rarer? Like the ABCD could go for as much as $200 and the A for a buck?

Not only are they more rare, but you could have 44 player collectors going after ABCD and only 11 going after A/B/C/D separately.

Very nice!

I think I figured it out. Everyone's should be the same except for the base. The base for everyone will be the color of the team he is on in the picture or in 1997. This is where people like me, Belle in a white sox uni, got confused because the base, silver and steel look SO close. I have the silver incoming and can't wait to close the chapter on this set. I will also post each like this when I get it.

Was looking for any insight on the '97 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals set... Looks like the card is made of 1 gram of fine gold and it is serial #/100... Are these extremely hard to come by? What have some play collectors paid for their guys or are a lot of you guys sitll looking for your guy? I've seen a few Belle's spike and never can seem to figure out a good price point or where a sellers mind is

I got my Arod for $50 because the plastic case that the card comes in was trimmed.

Is it just me or does Beckett have the 1997 Score Reserve Collection pricing ass backwards? For example, they are saying that the Hobby Reserve (white border w/ gold stamp) Fred McGriff Goin Yard is worth $5, but that the Reserve Collection (etched foil 1:11 packs parallel) is only worth $2.50?

How rare are the Hobby Reserves? I opened a box of Score at K-Mart back in the day, and almost every card was a Hobby Reserve.

Got this in today:
1999 UD Textbook Excellence Quad

FANTASTIC find! Congrats!

Awesome Gwynn!

The die-cut on these inserts is a clever concept, makes the card look as if it was a page torn out of a textbook.

How rare are the Hobby Reserves? I opened a box of Score at K-Mart back in the day, and almost every card was a Hobby Reserve.

So here's the deal. In 1997 Score comes out with Score Premium Stock to mirror the Score Series I release. It looks like the normal base Score cards, only thicker stock and has a Premium Stock stamp on it. Everything else about them look the same.

Inexplicably, Score renames them Hobby Reserve when they release the Series II version. But what Score does right in this second series is release a terribly named parallel called Reserve Collection which were seeded 1:11 packs. These are obviously different - they are foil etched and on the back you can see RC-ReserveCollection in the background. They'll take an eye out. Someone throw in a scan

So there's confusion because Score renames the Series II premium release, then includes a parallel that didn't exist in the Series I release and names it too similarly to this newly named Series II premium release. Got it?

I'm wondering how clarkfan and jaderock got all theirs. I wonder if they figured out this confusion early and were able to capitalize.

Despite being 1:11 packs, they are really hard to find for some reason. Not sure if there wasn't a ton made, if not a lot was opened because it was a Series II release, or what. While there were plenty of duds in Series II, there were some cool subsets like Goin Yard and Rock & Fire. They are undervalued by Beckett.

Thanked. I think I can almost make sense out of that. :D

Rebuilding my Konerko Dodgers collection lately, some of this is new stuff, some old and some are things that didn't sell that I am now grateful they didn't:

Beckett lists a "Member's Only" parallel for the 1994 Stadium Club Draft Picks set, but I've never seen a copy (or set) for sale. Can anyone confirm whether they exist or not?

The PSA 9 First Day Issue was pack-pulled by me in 1996, I remember opening the entire box, 2 or 3 packs at time just trying to get ANY first day issue card. I couldn't believe it when I pulled the card I wanted most out of 90 possible players. It was the only first day in the entire box!

Recently dug this out of an old box of variations I had stashed in my old hometown (on ebay now). I love the look of these cheap parallels, but the 'partial variation' aspect makes me love them even more :
