Hey guys, just wondering how difficult are finding these promo cards? Thanks for any help.

Inserts08-06-11001.jpg

I'm really confused about this card. Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a similiar ARod that has "SAMPLE" written across it. I have never seen one or even knew they existed until then. Now you have posted a Jeter with a gray border and "The Big Picture" written on the bottom. Do you have a different version without the border? My regular and Sample versions of ARod do not have this. I'm at work and going on memory right now but will confirm later.

Here's the ARod I won.

I do have the other versions of the 8" x 10"

Here is the 8"x10" with "sample" across it. I also have the same 8"x10" (don't have the scan handy) without the "sample" across it.

got these at the national. it is very sad to say that 90's inserts were almost nonexistent. the show was about 90% vintage! i did get a few cards, it was a very disappointing show for me

.vintage collectors say pre war cars are rare? not from what i seen at that show. i looked at all the display cases, asked all the dealers for Juans. i looked in all the .25, $1,$5.$10,$15, and all other boxes with price as marked. theses are the best 90's Juan's i could find!!! imo "only" the show was a JOKE!

This just isn't at the National, it is almost every card show I have been to in the past 6 years. Even when Andruw Jones stuff was hot in 2005 and 2006, all people had at shows were rookies and high priced game used or autos of his. I rarely could find any 90's inserts or even general stuff to add to my collection. And my collection was a ton smaller then, so I needed a lot. Shows today are wax, vintage, and prospects. You might have a few tables that have some stuff of interest, but if you are strictly a player collector, shows are probably not for you unless you like checking out all of the great vintage they have. Just my opinion obviously.

Now back on track.

Rarely see this set for sale, yet alone in gem condition.

Re: 1997 Zenith 8 x 10 The Big Picture Prototypes

My understanding is that the 6 card set was dropped before production; it includes Frank Thomas, which I have.

1 Frank Thomas
4 Ken Griffey, Jr.
5 Mike Piazza
13 Alex Rodriguez
17 Derek Jeter
19 Cal Ripken, Jr.

I too have a SAMPLE version of the Thomas dufex that was actually put into production, as well as the pack released base and dufex jumbos.

So I have been collecting ARod for 15+ years and I have never seen "The Big Picture" card of his and the Jeter posted earlier is the first one I have ever seen of any player. Beckett recognizes Alex's Big Picture on his card checklist. I was simply hoping it was a mistake. Oh well, I'll continue looking. Thanks for the info.

talking to a number of vendors at our last show in greensboro, and asking about 90s cards...most of them said they don't bring those kind of cards because there is such a small demand for them and they basically just take up expensive tablespace when only a small handful of people ever ask about them. thus they keep those at home.

its all about what is hot -- even if there is a pretty large market for these cards they definitely aren't what a majority of people are running around looking for.

I totally understand their reasoning and it makes sense. They have very little room at shows, so I understand they want to maximize their exposure by bringing what is hot and what the majority of the collectors want. With that said, I can understand how disappointing it is as a player collector to go to the National and find so little. You would think that with so many dealers, there would be some guys who specialized or at least brought 90's inserts. Ebay, COMC, etc... will continue to be the best market for player collectors!

Back to the 90's, not really an insert, but a huge pickup recently for me. 1 of only 8 Pristine's

Great mail day for me...

Then I finally got the silver (top right) after a long battle of figuring out what I need considering how similar the base, silver and steel look for Belle. Thought I'd post the series, still need the grand finale.
