1998 had gold boxes #'d to 199

I have never seen a gold tin in person. What did that bad boy run you?

Got it free from a local card shop back in 1998. Said I could have the box as soon as he sold all of the packs from it (which ended up being within the hour!)

These are really cool, I wonder how these were distributed. I'm assuming a dealer got a case and in that case either all the boxes or randomly some might be gold?

Quick notes to some of the comments, very clear difference between tin boxes and tin packs. Had to point out because even Burbank sent me the wrong one way back when...

Some of those cases are sealed!?!?

The only sealed ones are the 1997 Score set and the 1997 Upper deck hometown heroes. I opened all the others shortly after they came in.

1998 Sealed tins

1997 Sealed boxes (I opened the Gonzo and Belle)

How do you keep yourself from opening them? I mean, there could be some inserts in there. I had a sealed Bagwell can of Pinnacle Inside that I had for a while, til one day I couldnt take it anymore and opened it. Inside was a McGwire Dueling Dugouts insert. Doesnt do my collection any good, but still...

Silver and Gold tins? Impressive

I have the 1997 and 1998 runs of tins in my collection, including both gold boxes, but they aren't scanned.

The gold paint job. The regular issue is red where it has gold paint. The regular gold tin is gold where the regular tin is blue.

How can you tell a 1998 Pinnacle Performers Big Bang Seasonal Outburst serial numbered from a non-serial numbered other than... the serial number :D thanks

^ Thanks. I just went back in thread time... 10 pages later and 80 or so to go ;)

I'll need to go reference this as well, very interesting.

As for the other previous posts, super sweet inserts showing up!

I've just about exhausted my resources in my search for 97 Score Reserve Collection cards. I messaged sellers on sportlots and Beckett that had either "Reserve Collection" or "Hobby Reserve" for sale since there is so much confusion between the two. I was getting stars and semistars for about $3-$5, but then they wanted over $2 for commons, so I passed on those.

Another Abreu

Plus I finally worked a deal with clarkfan for this Rusty

I thought that was it, until I saw this thread by boomo: http://www.freedomcardboard.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=144470

I asked him to let me know if he cracked that box in the background. He said if there's any potential in it he'd open it. He ended up doing about as well as you can possibly do out of this mostly crap product, and sold me all the goodies!

Then this awesome HOF hit!

Yeah, there's a whole list of player collectors looking for these cards. That was part of the evidence to me that they are rare. Just on this board alone I've heard from members looking for Will Clark, Kenny Lofton, Greg Maddux, Ryno, I need another Rusty, and jaderock needs both Brunells (I think?) from the fb version.

The odds of pulling a decent Reserve Collection are pretty terrible. Out of the 221-card set, there are about 12 stars/near-stars in the first 160 cards. The next 60 has a bunch of stars, but all subset cards. Considering that in a box the main pulls are parallels (you get about 2 Reserve Collection, 4 Showcase Series, and 1 Artist's Proof), and the few inserts are mostly duplicates from other Score products, it's no wonder this is considered junk wax.
