Nice pickups AndruwHRJones!

is anyone here familiar with the 98 fleer tradition vintage 63 classic cards? most of the ones i've seen (limited quantity) either are horribly off-centered or have scratch marks on the card. It "appears" that the Andruw below has some lines over his left arm and the bat. here's a Pedro I have and he has some scratch marks on his right shoulder and left hand. I'm just wondering if this was a known production issue

MartinezPedro_1998FleerTraditionVintage63Classic36.jpg

A Pedro recently sold on ebay and from the image it looked like it had similar scratching.

I am a big fan of '63 Classics, but other than about 7 Rusty Greers the only others I've had in hand are a Jim Thome and a Jeff Kent. I have noticed some condition issues with these cards, but not all. I assumed that the condition issues were rough handling after leaving the pack and the gold foil diamond just being very delicate and susceptible to scratching. I have not noticed a centering issue.

Another variation I've noticed is the coloring of the gold foil. Most are bright gold, but some are a duller, bronze-like gold. Not as attractive.

Of course player collectors' favorite cards are the slightly oversized version numbered 000 of 63 that was probably back-doored while Fleer was still operating (based on fact that I bought mine in about 1999). These are most likely 1/1's. I recently slabbed mine since it wouldn't fit in a normal album sheet.

Never noticed any damage until you mention it... Here are the scans, and looks like a few scratches behind his back. I'll have to go dig it out of the box and look closer.

I recently acquired this lot of sealed sets of Black Golds off ebay. I needed the C winner card with Bagwell on it, and wound up with the A and B sets as well. So does anyone need these? I also opened the C Set to get my Bagwell, and I have extra Black Gold cards now of:
Jay Bell
Craig Biggio
Jeff Blauser
Barry Bonds
Darren Daulton
Len Dykstra
Andres Galarraga
Ron Gant
Tom Glavine
Mark Grace

I sold this and bought it back from the same guy a year later. If I had known how tough these are to find clean, I likely would have never listed it.

Seller included the die cut card too which was pretty cool.

And here's that Mirror Gold. It feels weird to have collected for so long and suddenly a bargain BIN becomes far and away the premier card in my collection.

Congrats on the awesome flip!

Thanks! That'll never happen again the rest of my life. It's a bittersweet feeling... it was far and away the best card in my collection (for two weeks  ) and such a great photo, balance, gorgeous refractor effect... just an amazing card. But hopefully I can buy some more amazing cards with the dough. That's just an awful lot of money.

Just snagged another one for the PC:

My only other Crusade is the purple Buhner. Once that comes in the mail, I'll get some scans up of my recent pickups.

edit:

My vote is you buy one $500 PC card you'd never have bought otherwise. Get your white whale.

What's fun about being an M's fan that collects cards is that it gives us something to do during the season ::facepalm::

Those are retail boxes, right?
yes
Does anyone ever hit Crusades from them?
I have pulled 2 out of 10 case's both greens.
Amazing how tough they are to pull... How crazy would it be to pack pull a red today [/quote:2g0h8c5x]

Sorry for the late reply, but I actually pulled a Red Crusade from a single box a few weeks ago.

So awesome. I busted 11 boxes recently and didn't hit even a green one. Some of the '98 Donruss inserts look pretty good, but nothing even close to the Crusades. I'd imagine they really stand out in the pack.

I agree. Actually, I pulled a couple of the red ones. Can't say I wasn't a little bit fooled at first. Was thinking Crusade.
