Dawson bought Dawson refractors.
And if I ever want one, it's going to cost me more than any auto/patch/or 1/1 in my collection... ::facepalm::
a PSA 9 sold last month for $50

Like I said...

How much do you think Dawson cards usually sell for?

i hear you, but this is beyond it being a "Dawson Card" This is a card from an all-time iconic baseball card set.

Hell, i paid $40 for my PSA 9 McGriff, and hes not in the HOF!

I tripled the number of 1998 Topps Tek Diffractors in my Olerud PC this week with the addition of these two. I really like the "ninja stars" background of pattern 84 on the left. I now have a whopping 3 Diffractors! :D

Just a note on the 90's inserts. I thought all the collectors of Griffey,Gonzalez,Thomas,Clark,Jordan where fanatic collectors, but they do not even come close to set builders!

This is true. Set builders will pay premiums for players who nobody else cares about just to complete their sets. ::facepalm::

The Andre Dawson hoarding his '93 Refractors is just some sort of strange baseball card collecting "urban legend".

There is positively nothing to substaniate the story.

Most importantly you will have no problem picking up a 1993 Finest Refractor Dawson.

Jimmy Key and Orel Hershiser are cards you will pay a premium for due to hoarding.

I remember there was an article in the 1996 Beckett with Mo Vaughn on the cover about refractors. I think that's where the rumor started. Don't have it in front of me, so I'm not sure who the author credits as the source of that part of the story.

So you're calling George uninformed?

I'm confused.

By the way, there are a grand total of 2 Dawson refs on ebay right now. One for $160, the other for $1k.

And 1 on comc for $72.

So being that there's a total of 3 for sale right now, and all for more than I think the card is worth constitutes a problem picking one up to me.

He was signing at a show in Clearwater in 95 and a guy came up to his side at the table and handed him 11 93 finest refractors of himself, He had a big smile on his face! I was in AWE! so i would say he is collecting his own 93 refractors. Maybe he just stopped. or maybe are more than the 240 their are suppose to be.

I've always wondered if there are more than 240. I'm not an expert on the 93 refractors, I remember them coming out when I was still collecting but I could never afford a box of Finest, and then only recently got back into the hobby in the last 2 years.

when i've looked at the PSA pop report (which I know is not 100% accurate), some refractors have extremely high pops--eg, Frank Thomas has had 239 graded refractors, Mike Piazza has had 224, etc.

I don't think I saw any player with >240, but if anyone knows of more than 2 raw Thomas refractors maybe we have our answer?

I know of 2. But that's not to say there haven't been regrades, which I'm sure there have been many.

No we wouldn't.
Cards can be cracked out of their slabs and resubmitted.
No way of tracking that.
