Yes there are fakes if its not a playing card weight and type then its fake.
Brian Berg built huge creations with these cards so it had to be the same
Sturdiness as a regular playing card.

There must not be too many fakes going around, because I have only seen 1 Andruw Jones ever. Outside of that, I have only seen a handful of these cards period.

IK I have heard there are fakes. I have never seen or held a fake or a real card either.
I was told if it's not an exact replica of a playing card then its a fake. Heck I would
like either of Griffey..

Couple things> They used the 96 version of the Pinnacle Fan Fest cards to do the tower
not the 97 version like yours. That was my first sign that this is fake and the top right corner
is not so round either.. Yes this was done at the 97 Fan Fest but they used the 96 or the
year before design because they had to have them made and Pinnacle didn't have that years
design done yet. So yes your card is a fake, sorry..

Thanks for the information. A couple more questions. So they used the same playing cards in 1996 and 1997? Have you seen fakes of the 1996 version also?

No like andruwjones said there must not be a lot of fakes out there because
they never surface. I have never seen any fakes. It's confusing because
they did this at the 97 All Star Game but used the 96 Cards and they only did
this one year not both... This is what the Ripken and others look like? I am guessing that
since they used the 96 set that Andruw Jones was not in there so thats why he has never seen
an Andruw Jones?

hmmmm. I used to have that one also what kind of stock it was on I can't tell you. But I am almost positive I got it the week after the 1996 Fanfest in Philadelphia. Ive been digging through the internet and have found some articles:

This one talks about Bryan Berg going to be at the 1996 Fanfest

Old Usenet Post somebody selling 1996 Fanfest Playing cards in May 1997 before the 1997 Fanfest

I have two of the 1996 Fanfest playing cards. I have the beat up one pictured with the John Garcia watermark, who I bought it off of, and then another one I won off eBay many years ago. They are the only two I have ever seen. They feel and have the exact texture as a playing card. The two I have I definitely believe to be from 1996, not 1997

I have seen one, so apparently it was a fake being that they used the 1996 card to make these. Thanks for the information. I now don't have to worry about adding this card to my collection.

I think if he is in the 1997 set, you are still on the hunt. The 1996 Set was in fact from 1996 to the best of my knowledge. I also think that 1997 card pictured is real, but the owner would need to check the texture to see if it is like a playing card.

Just because the 1996 playing card set has the 1997 logo on the back does not means it's from 1997. 1996 Pinnacle was printed sometime at the end of 1995, so any logo change going into effect the next season could very well appear on a mid season printing.

I think that information is incorrect. Berg was at the 1996 FanFest. Why would they use 1996 cards at the 1997 FanFest?

I think because they didn't have the 97's done in time. Not sure how long they need to make these
but guessing a month or so? I have asked for a picture or confirmation from his site but haven't
gotten back to me yet..

Doesn't mean he's the end-all-be-all. I'm sure he'd tell you that too. If they did it both years, his info could be correct, pictured with the wrong card. ;)

Well, they are the same images from the Fanfest set, so they must have been designed in time.
The playing cards would have almost surely been subletted out to a playing card manufacturer, meaning as soon as the designs were done they could have been printed. I would think the actual baseball card set would have taken longer to produce with the addition of foil, and then needed to be foil packaged and boxed/shrinkwrapped. And we know that was done in time, because they were distributted at FanFest.

Nope  jk I don't know what to believe now? All I do know I have never seen a 96 or 97
fake or real Griffey and I search daily through 100's of auctions for hidden gems..

It's interesting about people making "guesses" on so many things, but really, we are all still so in the dark. I would be worried that some things said as a "guess" start to get taken as "true"... I have no problem with opinions and/or guesses. I just don't wan't the topic to come up in a year or too, and have Jack Straw or McGwire Museum's name come up as someone who "knows"...
Mine (lighter stock, matte finish, possibly fake, possibly real):

I also think the ones like the McGwire pictured are from 1996. Like I stated I also had a 1996 at one point and I am almost positive I got the week after Fanfest in Philly. Another article with Bryan talking about the upcoming Fanfest in 1996.

http://articles.philly.com/1996-07-03/n ... -radar-gun
"Berg, 22, lean as the ace of diamonds, with surfer-blond hair, will be building a replica of Veterans Stadium out of special baseball cards at Pinnacle's FanFest from Friday through Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center."

As for the 1997 one I have it is not playing card stock I don't know if there are 1997 versions on playing card stock. Maybe it is a fake version of the real playing card, maybe it is something some one just mocked up, I still believe this may have been made by Pinnacle.

A few ebay auctions

1996 Versions-

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-PINNACLE-A ... 5d3307ee68

1997 Versions - Going by the scans these appear to be on the same stock as I have. I contacted the seller to find out.
