Oh Super Sweet 90's Inserts.... #3

Guys,

I was going through some cards tonight and came across a handful of decent 90s inserts that I don't really need. I'm going to go ahead and put up half of them now and see if anyone is interested in them. If not, then at least I'll have contributed something besides my infrequent Daulton/Delgado/Vlad posts.

FWIW, the Juan Gone and Big Hurt aren't in mint condition. Foil issues along the edge of the Juan if you look real close, and a slightly dinged corner on the Thomas that doesn't show up in the scan. Just nitpicky stuff.

I recently emailed COMC about the messed up listings they have for all the 1997 Score HR/Hobby Reserve/Reserve Collections. Hopefully their listings get straightened out soon; they still list the non-HR Hobby Reserves as Reserve Collection AND as the HR-prefixed Hobby Reserve, so some collectors are getting screwed if they're not careful.

It's funny you should mention that because I have been sending them corrections on those cards too. You can actually look at some of the players listing and see the HR prefix and non-HR prefix cards under the same title. It is confusing since the series 2 premium stock and Hobby reserve are identical other than the HR-prefix, but I am surprised they haven't fixed it yet.

COMC takes their pricing and set info from Beckett, especially the big yearly ones. Beckett sure doesn't get the story right with the Score HR; they mention the non HR-prefixed HRs are the S2 equivalent of Premium Stock, but then they go ahead and confuse those and the HR-prefixed HRs two columns over (that listing says there's an HR-prefixed card for Series 1 as well as Series 2, which I'm pretty sure is wrong). They DO get the Reserve Collection description correct, but the multiplier they list is laughable (12X base, when going by sales should be more like 125X base).

On my personal wantlist for 1997, I've taken to calling the HR-prefixed Hobby Reserve cards "Reserve Collection White", and I almost consider them equivalent to the S1 White Border APs (albeit harder to find and more expensive). If I had known this set would end up being such a pain, I would have never dumped what I had back in the 90's!

I actually bought that checklist from the guy who has one ending tomorrow. He had worked a deal to obtain 5 or 6 of them. The one he has listed now is his last copy, but it has creases on it, which he discloses in his auction listing. He said he is trying to obtain some of the actual marbles now too. I still need the marble, so I am hoping he gets them.

I bet someone ends up pissed off with that auction. You can't really see the crease in the scan, and a lot of people don't actually read the item descriptions... I bet someone ends up bidding what they would for a non-creased card and it sells for more than it should...

I just got off the phone with COMC regarding another issue I had, and asked about this very thing. The CS rep I spoke said, in effect, that if Beckett is wrong, they need to change their listings before COMC can fix theirs. I explained the situation in excruciating detail to him, and he said he'd let the ID people know and get back to me. They have to know that something is off, all they need to do is see how they have the same cards listed with HR prefixes and without them.
