It's the only explanation. I'm almost furious. It'll be another 5 years until I get a chance to add the item I missed to my collection, I'm sure.

I just had another one fail though I did place a manual bid. I was the only bidder but the snipe registered as "bid under the asking price" when my snipe was set much higher. Weird

I had some issues and followed the instructions on setting a proxy. Don't ask me what it means, but everything seems to be fine now. I didn't miss anything earth shattering this time, although I was a bit pissed at seeing a 41 Play Ball Luke Hamlin (signed) sell for only $35 and change when my snipe was significantly higher! Maybe i still don't win, but you never know!!

I got majorly screwed 2 days ago with Gixen, told me bid didn't fire because ebay asked for a code to be typed in. And tested it again with a lower item I didn't really care that much about today and it didn't fire. I'm avoiding sniping for the time being, I'm afraid eBay is moving towards blocking those services.

It'd really level the playing field if you guys had to bid manually wouldn't it?

My gixen account has been working properly. I've had for just over a year. It's a great service and has saved me lots of $.

What playing field? It's a free service everyone has access too. If you are using eBay, you have internet and a computer, so you can type in gixen.com and do the same thing we're all doing.

All feelings aside, what a terrible move by eBay if they're blocking it. The only explanation is they're developing their own service and will offer that for a charge... which would be interesting and probably a smart move. At least for shareholders to maximize profit.

All-in-all, gixen actually helps increase the $ paid at closing for an item, so not sure why eBay would want to stop it otherwise.

Yeah, don't quite get that statement - if everyone has equal access, what's the problem? If I bid manually it would still be in the last 5 seconds, so what's the difference?

Interesting take, but I'm curious how Gixen increases $ for ebay? I always thought sniping lowered final prices and therefore final fees for ebay. Forcing users to bid manually, leaves a lot more time for bidders to say "hmm, I was out bid. What's another $5?" And bid again. And so on and so on
