The kids who used to look at our posts from the early 2000-2015 ranges are grown men and woman now. They got $$ to burn. Couldnt own them then - they can now. Cards are being treated as stocks now.

Seriously, what's going on with Griffey inserts? Many I bought (and later sold in 2013) for under $10 are going for hundreds or even a grand. Looking at you 1996 Ultra Thunderclap. I mean, who's buying at these outlandish prices? Investors who couldn't afford Michael Jordan inserts? Bonds inserts are having an uptick as well. Gotta focus on the greats, I guess.

Its all just flipper madness and hot potato. People are gonna get stuck hokding a heavy worthless bag with a LOT of cards when it crashes out. I say 90 plus percent of market activity is flippers looking to profit on spec/alt investment because most people are maxed out and dont make enough money at their real jobs. Vintage Sports Shack (and others) is DEAD ON on this video.
Its all the same people watching and messaging on any cards. Almost All flippers, not collectors.

Going to post some cards that came back from my February 2026 tax return sub with BGS in my Recent slabs / pick ups thread, but this one is going here in the 90's insert thread where it belongs. Back in March of 2025 I got this from one of my fellow hobbyists that I dealt with on a whole slew of high end stuff. He's the one who helped me complete my Perfect 10 Fleer set by selling me a Griffey in 2005 , and provided cards from rare insert sets he knew I collected. I first dealt with him in 1997, and the cardboard friendship lasted neary 30 years

One of the values we shared was a desire to help other collectors out. We spent many hours assisting people, and no one was happier than the two of us when we saw how much the people we helped enjoyed the items. Along with Kevin (pinbreaker), George (gcalfas), Cody (sneekc), Dirk (edwards everything) and a whole slew of others he was always a reliable source when we ran Secret Santas on BMB and had issues. Always stepping in to help out

This was the very last card we had dealings on. He knew I'd appreciate its rarity. I offered a generous amount, above market. He refused to accept the full offer, instead offering it for much less. He knEw of my wifes condition and change in my financial status from loaded to broke due to her disease. I sold a Clemens rare item to get the funds necessary. Like anyone I hit the paypal buttons fast as I could hit them and waited.

Card arrived a week later. Less than 10 days later- he died. If you've been around for years- you know exactly who Michael (MagicPapa) is and was. A part of me wants to hold on to it. Sadly it will not be possible as my retirement means I need to downsize my 3 storage units and 50x100 warehouse space and control expenses better.

Hopefully the collector who wins / buys it will enjoy it. Long post I know- but Michaael means a lot to me folks so long post it was

I rarely jump on here anymore so didn’t even realize Magic went on ahead. Great person gone too soon. I did one trade with him years ago and enjoyed his posts and his Griffey display was unmatched. Hopefully his collection is cherished by his family. I myself wonder what I should do with my collection as I get older. None of my kids are collectors and it would be overwhelming for my wife or them to disperse it if they so desired. What plans do you guys have?

I'm in a similar situation. No kids. Just a brother that doesn't collect. I have become good friends with a few people from the local card shop. One of them sets up at shows with me. I'm going to add him to my will for all of my sports memorabilia. My brother will get everything else. He knows and has an idea of what it have.

So going through a storage box brought home for the next few weeks , I just came across some unscanned inventory that was part of a collection from two people I bought from back in 2016 of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio. I keep detailed scan files of what I buy or sell going back to 2002. During Covid prices were high , and while I remained employed the whole time I decided to hit while the iron was hot and sell some at well above what I paid.

Yep. Happens to us all. Will show off just a few dozen sales of Craig Biggio BGS / PSA slabs I let loose. Regretted it because I actually had big registries of him. I just realized storage was overflowing at the time and something had to go

At the end in a few will show the new slabs just located. If your the new owner - congrats !! Glad I was part if the food chain

More crying over my Covid sales I shoulda held. Dont miss the 1999 version at all. Its the 1998 Topps Gold Label Red I miss. WTF was Topps staff thinking in 1999 ? Succesful concept that could have just rolled over. Nah lets change the nunbering so it can only be seen from the side. Explains one reason Topps moved to my 3rd favorite company

Day 4 of my Covid sales regret The BC Gold Refractor brings the biggest pain

Although tommorow is better. Slabs I found all shot up now that the hobby caught on to their difficulty getting Mint 9 and higher conditions
