I was looking up some info on Lincecum because me and my friend were wondering how old he was. While I was checking things out I saw he was draft by the Cubs in the 48th round after high school. Im not saying he would be the cy young winner he is today if he didnt go to college to improve his overall game, but still I never knew the Cubs drafted Lincecum. This got me wondering, what players have your teams drafted and not signed only to go and be all-stars?

The Red Sox drafted Matt Laporta in 2006, Pedro Alvarez in 2005, Ricky Romero and Brian Bannister in 2002, and Mark Teixeira

Hmm, I really don't know of too many current players who the Cardinals haven't been able to sign, but I do know they drafted Kevin Mulvey and Kyle Russell, but weren't able to sign them.

I know there are definitely some others though.

Marlins drafted the Laroche brother who went on to play with Atlanta, they also drafted Johan Santana at one point.

They didn't draft him, but the Trailblazers (NBA) passed on Michael Jordan. He wouldn't have fit into the offense, but he wouldn't be one of the greatest if he wouldn't have went to Chicago.

Do the Pirates count?

They need to make an insert series for the Pirates in one of the new sets. It can be called

"Future Stars....Of Other Teams"

Phillies passed on Ryne Sandburg, oh well

The Phillies didn't pass on Sandberg, they drafted and signed him. He played 13 games for them in 1981 before he was traded (with Larry Bowa) for Ivan DeJesus.

I think the tandem of Clyde Drexler and Michael Jordan would have done just fine.

Being a Jays fan, I cant complain too much as they have a pretty good track record of players being developed within.

Pretty good guys that were drafted and developed by Toronto:

Halladay, Shawn Green, John Olerud, George Bell, Barfield, Moseby, Dave Steib, David Wells, Jeff Kent, Aaron Hill, Adam Lind, Jimmy Key, Tony Fernandez, Carlos Delgado.

There are a few blunders. I hated seeing Kent get traded for Cone back in the day even though we did win the Series that year.
Also seeing Michael Young do well has had me wondering at time.
